I really don't understand your point of view.

--> 1. except very few companies, as far as I know, all the major 'paying' DAW's or software companies are asking their customers some payment for major updates. For all my owned software, major updates are always very very more expensive then Tracktion.
How much will have be my budget in 15 years if I was a fanboy of Cubase ? of Logic ?...
Am I saying that only because I'm a Tracktion fanboy ?
--> 2. it's true, that for the moment, the Tracktion DAWs T4, T5, T6 and T7 have not an integrated and free manual.
So, do you prefer to have a 60$ DAW + a 10$ separate manual, or a 70$ DAW with integrated manual ?... Ok, I accept that it is more simple to have a unique download with both (DAW + manual), but it seems to me that ACTUALLY, I prefer to have to pay 70$ in 2 downloads than 0$ for only a dead DAW called T3...

Yes, I'm a fanboy from the very early days.
I think that in the very past years, in the years when Jules creates T1, the 2 unique revolutionary DAWs, in the philosophic way of course, were Ableton LIVE (for the people working essentially with loops), and Tracktion, for all the other not digitally formatted but just creative people. It exists other DAWs, for sure. But I'm talking of REVOLUTIONARY one's.

I'm not saying that Tracktion is the best one. I'm not saying that today the Tracktion DAW is competing at the same level than Cubase, Protools, Logic, or... etc..., I'm just saying that for me, a simple hobbyist music composer, I was the most happy man when I've meet for the first time T1, and when Jules and the TSC team have give some new life to the dead T3.
I don't know how old you are, but when I was young, probably it would be a little bit difficult for you to imagine how it was for composing and record music for hobbyists alone at home (no digital nothing, all with tape machines...),I'm not insulting you, be sure of that, but I'm not sure you can imagine how it was very very simple to record 7 or 8 tracks in a cassettes stereo machine recorder (at least 2 tracks) when you was alone at home... composing, playing, recording...
And yes, Jules gives me a digital tape recorder... waouh !... and nothing so complicated than other existing DAWs in those years...
Ok, I'm too long. Sorry and thank you for reading me.

So, in the point of view of 'philosophy', for me the 2 revolutions in DAWs were LIVE and T1.
And be sure that I have any interest in trying to convince you.
Just the point of view of a hobbyist musical composer who thinks that actually there is no other DAW on the market allowing me to be a musician without loss of creativity opening an very easy simple tool to make what he have in mind at this instant...

I hope you will find the best tool for you in the actual market, corresponding to your personal musical philosophy, workflow and except FL, free major or minor updates at life.

Best regards to you from a french fanboy of Tracktion

Strange that you have a problem with someone voicing their opinions back
Whyterabbyt, What does "Pity that you weren't dedicated enough to use it three times more than someone who's just bought it has, then." mean?
It means that if you're complaining that you paid three times as much as someone who just bought it, you'd only have to use it three times as often as that someone who's just bought it to have a higher useage to cost ratio.
In other words, if you havent had three times as much use or value out of it over ten-plus years compared to someone who's just bought it, that's your own damned fault, not the fact that in ten years it has added up to more than the cost of buying it recently.
I thought this was an adult forum so I don't understand your stupid schoolboy logic or your extremely sarcastic tone towards someone you don't even know.
If you had to have the logic explained to you, clearly you couldnt understand it, so you must be operating at a less-than-schoolboy level.
I've been a user since 2004 or did you not bother to read in full before foaming at the keyboard for the 23,568th time.
I calculated how much it cost you per day since 2004. 9 pence, I believe it was. Did you not bother to read in full before foaming at the mouth yourself?
Or can you just not do basic maths?
Do you just like to upset people while hiding behind your keyboard?
Im pretty neutral on whether someone, who's basically making a pointless tirade about how entitled they think they are, feels upset by having reality pointed out to them.
Learn some tolerance. We can't all be perfect like you.
Yeah, your first post just oozed tolerance. Hypocrite.

Let's see, you've payed <10c per day.

Someone that just bought Tracktion 7 has paid $10 per day.

It looks like the OP has got quite the deal. I don't see an issue.

I think most would agree that $30.00 for the T7 upgrade is an exceptional value!!! :D

Used since v1, stopped at v6. Having paid all the way through.
bugs, drop outs, gui probs, scan probs, waves probs, poofs, etc etc.
Studio One snots T. I agree with Dave Wiz.
I'm on 3.2Pro, (a free upgrade from 3 incidentally). Cost to me since jumping in about £250. But it works.
Time is better spent learning how to do something, as opposed to being stuck fixing bugs and effectively beta testing. Ive never even been on a Presonus forum. Just watched youtube for tips and how to's.
Sorry, but look at all the posts on here, page after page, its basically a beta testing discussion group.
I've loved T, it got me in to DAW dabbling, but i grew tired of so much unexpected behaviour.
Not been here for a long time, and it looks as if very little has changed.
I think T has lost sight of what it was, and what it was good at. An unconventional UI was great when it wasnt trying to compete feature for feature with other DAWS
Its like its uniqueness cant grow with what is now being asked of it. Maybe? I dont know.
I got more done in T3 than any other version so for all of Mackies wrong headedness, they maybe did a few things right.
I am not a pro, or anywhere near it, but what i have now is a DAW that works as expected every time i turn it on and is 100%, and i mean 100%, solid and reliable.
That doesn't shit itself every time a new plug in is waved under its nose.
Brutal.
Sorry.

Lots here to agree with. I've been on a similar journey and have a lot to thank Tracktion for.
For me it just got progressively more chaotic with every new release.
Maybe i was just ready to see a mixer view.

It's true there have been some bugs in Tracktion for some time now. I reported some and most were solved by TSC. Most annoying for me is the plugin jerky UI issue on OSX.
I'm afraid this issue is linked to Tracktion concept and perhaps will never be solved.

I also tried S1 and it is reliable, clever editing tools and was even more stable and logic to use than Logic pro until 10.2.2 which seems to be less buggy.

I upgraded to T7 in hope it will improved.

I really like Studio One 3.2, but it crashes far more often than T7 on my MacBook. And every DAW forum is filled with folks having problems, that's their primary purpose. (Visited the Studio One forums of late?) There's not much payoff for sharing happy experiences, as it's easy to get labeled, so most folks just lurk. Or are off happily making music. :)

In the end, every one of us has to find the best tool for our creative style and hardware. For many that remains Tracktion. Like Dupont, I'd like to see the 'jittery plug-in' issue fixed in OSX, as well as better performance at low latencies. But so far my experience with T7 has been excellent: it's been stable, all my plug-ins work (and scan quickly), and for me nothing compares with Tracktion for capturing creative ideas.

(Studio One won't be going to waste: Of late I've explored breaking song creation into two discreet steps: songwriting then mixing/mastering. It adds some annoying overhead exporting/importing stems, but it keeps me from fiddling endlessly during the songwriting process, forcing me to focus on building the song as a whole. And Studio One is an excellent mixing tool).

I love Tracktion, I have used it from version 1.6. T6 and T7 are great, stable and reliable, it was not really the case of T3/T4/T5.
What annoy me the most is not the software but the mentality of the compagny nowadays.
They have made some curious decisions, and they don't seem open to dialogue on some subjects.
For example, there is no manual, there are videos but most of them must be purchased,
I also think that Tracktion must come with at least a simple synthesizer and a simple drum machine, so that just after installing the application we can immediatly begin to lay dow some musical ideas.
I don't understand that the compagny don't give the JX10 and DX10 for free with Tracktion, they were previously free and they are based on very old plugins by MDA, so 40$ is really a shame.
Zynewave, author of the Podium DAW, give for free the Nucleum VST Synth, Acoustica, author of the Mixcraf DAW, give for free the Nightlife VST synth, Mutools, author of the Mulab DAW, has integrated the incredible MUX into Mulab, and so on... They are little compagnies, and certainly need some money too, but they seem more friendly.

Not true - the ones made by TSC are all free.

hahaha, that made me laugh .. :D

Good luck mate, whatever works best for you is fine by me. I'm beginning to think (well, not really beginning ...) that generic operating systems and real time audio work aren't the best of bedfellows. You'd think by now a cut down linux distro, optimised for audio work, with no "unecessary" frills, would have emerged, and be rock solid, but that doesn't seem to be the case...

Sorry.
While I do think it's true that Tracktion is either a bit more fragile than some other hosts or at least is a stickler for rules (not all plugins are perfect, even the ones that run fine in some hosts), I also think it's important to remember two things.

1) Every host with a forum seems to have people running into problems, also stating that Plugin X works just fine in other hosts.

2) The people who have no problems running Tracktion don't often chime in to say that they're not having any problems.

I'm not currently having any problems with any plugins in Tracktion. In all fairness, though, I have trimmed the number of plugins I have installed. I also only seem to get about 2 hours per month to work on music, so...
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Yeah, the small number updates are free with Tracktion too.

Incidentally.

Are you on OSX, Windows or Linux ?
If on OSX, have you faced jerky UI with some plugins ?
