I've brought up this subject before (about half a year ago), but I have to ask again.
I got help back then, but it was only for the spesific challenge I had.
Even after watching Bill Edstroms video on YouTube, I don't understand side-chaining. He explains how to set up an instance with a compressor, but he doesn't explain the principles behind side-chaining in a way that I can understand how to use it with other plugins. I know that other plugins won't be very much different from a compressor. But I still have problems setting up some plugins. I'll give you one example:
I recently downloaded a demo version of a plugin called Trackspacer. You can find it here:

It sounded like a nice plugin, and I wanted to try it out. But I can't figure out how to use it properly in Tracktion. Well, get it to work in a way, but it is compressing frequencies in the wrong instrument.
I have a piano track and a bass track, and I want the Trackspacer to remove the frequencies from the bass which the piano is using. I want the piano to dominate those frequencies, and the bass should only fill in where it is necessary to make a rich bass sound!
But as you can see and hear in the two screen recordings I've made and uploaded to YouTube, I only manage to achieve the opposite. The bass occupies those frequencies.
Trackspacer doesn't seem to have dedicated side-chaining inputs, but it has four inputs instead. I assume that input 3 and 4 are intended to be used as side-chaining inputs, but I'm not sure.
In the first screen recording, I've set up the piano going into input 1 and 2 (left and right), and the bass to input 3 and 4. And as you'll hear, both the piano and the bass are playing, and the Trackspacer is compressing the piano sound in the frequencies of the bass.
In the second screen recording, I have set up the bass going into input 1 and 2, and the piano to input 3 and 4. But then only the bass is playing.
Why is that? I don't understand this. What I'm I doing wrong?
I also would be very grateful if somebody could explain the basic principles behind this!
