The first thing i have noticed is a bad choice of font in the interface on Windows. While the bigger text looks fine the small fonts in the tooltip and popup help area look quite blurry. I have found a font which is somewhat okish now, but i wish i could either define 2 different fonts for small and normal text, or being able to adjust the font size for the tooltip area or popup help independent of the main font. Especially as a new user i'm still relying on them and they are somewhat hard to read. If i pick a bigger font the rest of the interface looks pretty goofy.
The demo hiss is quite annoying, first i wanted to actually start a small demo song to test it under real conditions, but that demo hiss just makes me mute my sound and demo without audio or very low volume. Maybe that can be toned down a little?
Shortcuts are often not working with a german keyboard. The forward slash to cut a clip for example is SHIFT + 7 normally and doesn't do anything. Instead Tracktions layout seems to be completely hardcoded. In the end i have to go through all the shortcuts and customize them, which is quite annoying for a start. Same goes probably for french and russian users or any country with a different layout for that matter.
The visual plugin finder can't do screenshots of some of my plugins and simply shows black pictures for those. Namely those are: Anything from eaReckon, Manda Audio MT-Powerdrumkit 2, Reveal Sound Spire old and new version, anything from Toneboosters and vladg/sound Limiter №6.
The midi editor toolbar could use some reworking (use screenshot to follow). First thing is grey text/buttons on dark/grey background. Don't do that, this should be readable better with higher contrast. Make the text and icons white, on a pressed button invert it and make background white and have the text/icon in a dark color for example. Positioning of the toolbar could be improved as well, so it would actually be shown over a midi clip and not hang around left of it. The buttons itself could be dynamic width as well, it looks odd with one button having cutoff text, in the next "Control" is stuffed into that width and on the third "Type", a 4 letter word, takes up the whole button width too, almost like it being a different font.
Still on the subject of the midi editor the following i would consider to be a bug. With a loop marker shown it's impossible to edit the velocity of the first note in the velocity editor. Even with the marker moved that handle is only half shown and the line is not even visible. Maybe make those lines a bit thicker and that handle at the top a bit bigger too?
So say i have decided to hide the midi editor toolbar. I can use the right click menu to switch the drawing tools and have the lower pane for switching the colors, but there is no functionality mirrored for the rest of the tools in either the menu or the lower pane. So i'm stuck using the toolbar.
Is there an API documentation for the macro system? Having to click through all the shortcuts and search around is really cumbersome. I have experience with coding and did a few tools for Renoise besides some other stuff and would really prefer to have a textfile or similar documenting all the calls.
Toggle Timecode bars/seconds with T also toggles through the movie FPS entries which i have no use for. How can i limit this to actually only go through bars/seconds? Maybe doable with the macro system.
I'd like to have a shortcut for toggling fullscreen on/off. Maybe doable with the macro system too?
My last question is kinda specific. Coming from a tracker background i'm used to being able to use my PC keyboard to quickly try some chords and be able to enter them. Is there a way to replicate this behaviour with Tracktion? I have tried Insert Piz Here - midiKeyboard and came close, but besides the plugin having a bug with a german keyboard Y and Z being swapped, Tracktion would still catch the keyboard shortcuts in the background while playing with it. Only other idea i have is installing FreePiano and MidiYoke, but maybe there is an internal way i'm not aware of?
