Wifi Router w iPad... Latency?

Using the touch screen of an iPad to control sound like an elegant way to control plugins.
When using plugins that are time sensitive like starting or ending a loop in a software looper, does using wifi add significant latency?
I am relunctant to add another level of gear-complexity, more stuff to my setup before being assured of workable stability.
Anybody out there using router/ipad combo at a gig with success?

I certainly use a VNC viewer to monitor what's happening. I was able to rec/playback GLoop with the VNC but all my sounds are via MIDI controller through USB. I'm curious what sound source or plugin you would control with iPad?

Please define VNC.

Virtual Network Computing. I use RealVNC. https://www.realvnc.com/download/viewer/
It works pretty well to control my 3io with a Netgear router. The last performance I did I used USB MIDI controllers/keyboard to send MIDI notes and change settings via CC's but I could have changed the settings (volume, panning, ADSR, and what not) using the GUI on the Mac. Before I went on I could check and tweak all the settings backstage on my iPhone. I could have run things from my phone but the screen is so small. I suppose I could pull up a plugin and use the keyboard GUI but that's not really my thing. Maybe those new monster iPads would have enough surface space. Definitely I can tap the GUI on the GLoop plugin and start a loop, but again, that's not totally convenient for me.

I think you are misunderstanding the point here. I was suggesting using a an iPad as a touch surface to control plugins on my Receptor in lieu of using cc control from a keyboard controller. That would require using a local network with my own wifi modem. I don't think VNC is helpful in this case. Using a mouse and cursor is not an option, for example, the GUI on a Mac.

You are correct. I was just trying to get you as close as possible. Here are some options from Bryan and Andy. I did not see the last post from Andy until I just checked on it now. I like the MIDIbeam thing. G'luck!!
