SPC Plugins wrote:Hi, sorry I've been AWOL once again! I've updated ArcSyn to v1.3. It has the following changes:
  • Updated GUI.
  • Polyphony increased to 32 voices.
  • Soft-clipping added to output stage to limit maximum level to 0dB.
  • Over 40 new programs.
  • Over 20 minor improvements and bugfixes.
The last item was the one that took most of the time - I kept unearthing minor flaws and had some very good suggestions put to me while trying to track down the main issue ArcSyn has on the Mac. (Which I'm still working on I'm afraid.) I've tried to fix everything that's been mentioned on here, including the clicking mono chorus, the out-of-tune sub-octave oscillator waveform and so on. Hopefully I haven't missed anything.

The most obvious change is to the GUI. It's an evolution rather than a revolution so if you *hated* v1.2, you'll probably hate v1.3!
while i "hated" the 1.2 gui i think the new gui looks much better. with a different colour scheme i would consider a purchase

Well, that's disappointing. I really love the sound of this synth. It is so unique. I really want to buy it, which doesn't happen often these days. But I won't buy it with that abomination of an interface. I can't even look at it.

I can't help but wonder how many sales you're losing because of it.

But whatever. It's your product.

Let's celebrate in the Pedestrian Zone then:

Thanks for the update... The more I use Arcsyn the better it gets, it's an incredibly versatile bit of kit.

That new GUI is not really an improvement. Knobs look cheap and do not fit and the layout is still inefficient. Is it really that hard to make the knobs flat so they match the rest of the synth? Why that ugly Photoshop emboss effect?
I don't have a huge problem with the yellow theme, but it seems like some people have difficulty looking at it, so that might be worth looking into.

I think the new gui is a big improvement, not sure what the problems are. Unfortunately the bug in Kore is still there, I think it's to do with 'note off' messages forcing some params to reset when a variation is saved. Even so I probably will buy it next payday, I doubt many people are avoiding it just over the gui, it's not that bad.

The new GUI is a step in the right direction, the knobs are much easier to read but I still can't get on with the yellow/grey colourscheme.

Agree.

You'd think with so many complaints about how butt-ugly and cheap this thing looks that some effort would have been made with the GUI beyond a token fix. But as Wagtunes says, it's your product. As I said may pages back, this is a $20 GUI, not a $99 GUI. No money from me.

i like it more and more as it has some unique sound at the same time i dunno where i would use it cause it sounds like older scifi unclean games soundtracks.
i could imagine making a dark soundtrack inspired by 70s and or 80s where the sound wasnt so cinematic crystal clear.

But it's a $99 synth... In fact, I'd go beyond that and say it's actually cheaper than it should be - given the quality of the sound. I'm personally ambivalent to the GUI I only care about how it sounds and what it can do. But the GUI is also very easy to navigate so that's a plus in my book.

Each to their own of course...

maybe the demowavesound is too distracting me and as i posted above the sound is unique but i wouldnt say excellent sound? it sounds for me too unclean for a newish synth somehow for the price.

Hmm... It can sound pretty dirty or clean in my opinion. I guess I just like the synths sound. I guess if you don't like the sound all that much, then no GUI is going to help. Each to their own of course...

The new GUI certainly looks like an improvement to me... and I am very picky with GUIs. Have to start demoing it again.
