Set auto-tempo for all audio clips in one action?

Hello there,

I recently started working with Tracktion and I think it's very good. I've got a couplet of questions though, I hope someone can help me out.

1. Sometimes I want to change the tempo of a project. Then of course the audio clips are out of sync. Is there an option to set all audio clips to 'auto-tempo' at once? Or should I use an other function?

2. When I'm playing a project and press 'record, Tracktion als jumps back a little before it records. Is there a way to smoothly start recording while the project is played?

If audio files have tempo information in them (e.g. from Acid or Apple Loops) they should be automatically Auto-Tempo enabled when you add them to the Edit. The Auto-Tempo property can't currently be set for multiple clips but this might be possible in a few months.

Not at the moment but we may look into this soon.

It would be great if you could smoothly try which tempo is best for your song, with all audio and midi tracks instantly following the tempo-changes.

I have an other question about changing tempo. The automation data don't move when I change the tempo, like they're attached to absolute timecode. The "Auto Lock' function makes no difference. Is there a way to sync the automation data to bars and beats?

You can do this by selecting a tempo point (perhaps the first one in the Edit) and using the tempo slider in the properties panel.

Click on the plugin and enable the "Remap on tempo change" option.
Alternatively you can enable this by default from the time bar menu. (Right click the time bar, select "default remapping options", "remap plugin automation").

Yes, but with each tempo change all audio clips have to re-render before they start playing. In large projects it takes some time (but I havn't got the fastest computer). I don't wanna nag (or even complain), but other programs like Ableton or Reaper are able to change tempo instantly. Or do these programs work with an other technique?

That's just the way Tracktion works. We render all audio files with speed or pitch changes to wav proxy files. This enables us to essentially have zero-overhead for time-stretched audio files and enables us to read from files extremely quickly. Other hosts may do this at playback time but that will incur additional overhead. Rendering these files shouldn't take very long though, I would imagine only a few seconds per file on a half decent machine. If you're constantly adjusting the tempo however I can see the rendering getting in the way.

If you're just trying to find a suitable tempo for your Edit you could try sticking it in another Edit as an Edit Clip and adjusting the tempo there. That way it will only have to generate a single time-stretched proxy.
