Extraordinary Spaces for Eventide Blackhole H9 Series: Blackhole$99.00Buy

Post

Now that I demoed Blackhole and listened to the demos of Extraordinary Spaces (also currently being 50% off), I am seriously running out of reasons / excuses not to buy it - especially seeing everyone being so happy about their purchase after all, even when already owning Shimmer (and sometimes many more reverbs) ...

Post

I dunno - I'm still on the fence about Extraordinary Spaces, myself. Is there a demo pack?

Damn. Shouldn'na said nothin'. I'll be picking this up later today. I played with the demo and pretty much fell in love with this verb. To me, even with the BlackHole preset and the adjustments earlier in this thread, it sounded significantly different from Shimmer to me, but then again, I purchased the Extraordinary Spaces presets to try with the BlackHole demo so maybe that made it sound significantly better. Amazing presets, those!
Yup, a sweet upgrade that makes Blackhole shine.

I didn't see one, there was pretty extensive audio demo. I passed. Not that they didn't sound good, but there was nothing that I was hearing that really surprised me. It's fair to say that trying to get money out of me for presets is a pretty tough sell. In fact, I think that I've never actually purchased them, ever. I guess if you count sample libraries, I've purchased those. I've also purchased Ableton Push presets for NI synths, but that's not really buying new presets, that's just me valuing my time more than the few bucks for the presets I have in a different format. My point is, don't take my choice to not buy them as meaningful, I'd really have to be amazed to buy presets. Actually, what sold me on the reverb was the modulation that a member was doing on their own patch here. I think the reverb is ok, I think that the modulation is useful and smooth.

Another big thumbs up for 'Extraordinary Spaces' :) And at €8.88 definitely a no brainer.
Blackhole really complements Valhalla Shimmer as does Waves Abbey Road Plates and Valhalla Plate. Great stuff!

Thx ;) Yes, very usable for this type of sound and different enough compared to ValhallaShimmer.

Btw.. added this small preview also to Soundcloud
Blackhole is on the smooth saw lead at 0:28 (Nord Lead) and at 1:17 (Arturia Matrix 12) some of the fill sounds are with Shimmer and enabled pitch shifting (12 semitones).

(Alot/Some) presets should have have mod-targets and ranges set-up. (I hope that is true)
But.. the manual says: Don't be afraid to turn the knobs

dunno - as I mentioned before, Blackhole has a rather reduced number of parameters and usually with presets you'd have to tweak a few parameters anyway in order to make them fit the situation you want to use them for...

True, but for some composers it probably is a good starting point without trying to find some good initial setup - same for synths, it's great when you are able to master your synth so you can get THAT sound out of it, but if you can't it can kill creativity. That's where presets come in handy.

Could be, I don't know, I'm not afraid to turn the knobs. Largely, listening to the audio demos I heard the kinds of things that I was getting myself by, well, turning the knobs. I'm cheap, what can I say.
