Hi all,

Suddenly any midi clip I try to render in an edit I am working on results in a spinning beach ball. Be it rendering out something in Kontakt or NI's Battery 4, etc., I get a spinning beach ball and have to force quit. (Workaround is to export the track then import, trim and place the exported audio file.)

Anyone encounter this? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you running as administrator?

Is it just one Edit or one MIDI Clip that has this problem?
If you create a new Edit, add a new, blank, MIDI clip, add some notes, then a synth and try to render the clip do you still get the hang?

Also, at what stage does it hang?

So, this issue has been evolving in worrisome ways, but I think I've figured something out they may be helpful to others.

Quick Context: I decided to write a cue in Tracktion for a class assignment and it is due on Friday. Tracktion is getting increasingly "twitchy" about renders. I wrote above about my sudden problems rendering midi clips to audio. I'd get a beach ball and would have to force quit. I switched to a workaround a couple of days ago (detailed above) and have been working since.

Then all of sudden when I try to export something...anything... as an audio file (a clip or the entire edit), I'd get the beach ball and have to force quit. I couldn't figure it out at first.

I thought maybe it had something to do with a comp (I don't know maybe some weird file thing going on...I am desperate), so I flattened the comp and then tried to render a random midi clip. This time the dialogue box popped up letting me choose options. However, when I hit 'go' nothing happened...no audio rendered (it just said export 0%). I was able to cancel out of it though, so that was an improvement.

On a lark, I disabled all effects plugins (not instruments) and automation patterns. I then tried to render a midi clip...and it worked! I then tried to export the edit....and it worked! Next I re-enabled everything, and it still worked! I am able to render clips and the whole file as before.

The weird thing though is that the flattened comp is missing. The clip container is there, but there is no composite waveform nor a file in my project directory. So I'm in the process of rebuilding the comp by importing the original takes to individual tracks in the edit and creating a comp group.

Anyway, it's a bit bizarre but so far getting through...

Hope this helps someone.

I tried looking in to this but couldn't replicate it. It sounds like it was something specific to your Edit or the plugins being used but now that it's not happening it will be difficult to look in to. You don't happen to have a backup of the Edit when it failed to render do you?

I save multiple versions of my edits as I work (v0.0.1, v0.0.2, etc.). On this one I am up to v.0.0.27 ... so I have the older versions before the fix...What do I need to do to send it to you...consolidate it with the audio files somehow?

Thx.

Yes, if you do an archive ("Export" -> "Create an Archive of this Edit...") and make sure you choose the "Export complete media files" and "No compression" options the project structure should be the same.
