in effort to stop a potential argument before it starts: yes, there is some issue with using KS with some audio interfaces that have weird buffer sizes. "weird" is technical term here that means "not a power of two".
This is mostly (entirely?) an issue that is limited to Firewire audio interfaces.

Something smooth for Easter Friday - 1 instance of KS with 2 active modules/2 images (1 textural/1 rhythmical) and a freshly written tuning file, processing various modulated noise sources, the tonality and rhythm is created entirely inside the plugin, some B2 added:

Two KS in a minimal 5/8 jam, input sources are modulated white noise and a spring drum accent every 2nd bar:

I'm using an iConnectivity USB interface on my Windows laptop at the moment. It has an auto buffer size mode, which usually sets it to some "weird" size. Is there something specific I can test to reproduce the problem you're describing?Galbanum wrote:in effort to stop a potential argument before it starts: yes, there is some issue with using KS with some audio interfaces that have weird buffer sizes. Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Nothing needed to test at the moment... let's wait until we have a new beta to test. then we can test-away...

22-Core Xeon E5 V4 (Broadwell Xeons) are out now:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/10158/the ... -v4-review
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/int ... 514-6.html
Who's brave, and rich, enough to buy one and try KS on it?
>$4k for the top end (22-core) model.
Holy Moly!
(if you are actually considering it, I would only really recommend it in two scenarios: a) there is a new Mac Pro that uses it b) you are upgrading an existing win system that you already have and you can use the same mobo. I would not build a new Win system using these right now, unless you really really need it, as the Skylake generation will have a completely new platform/mobo. If you are spending that kind of $ on new CPU, you better be sure the platform is not expected to change soon -- and it is expected to change MAJORLY for the next Xeon generation.).
Then again, I am very curious how it performs compared to Skylake 6700ks, which are insanely great for the price. Inquiring minds want to know...

AISI, the problem has not been the cores or speed as much as in how the OS/DAW distributes applications across the cores. While I don't have the 'latest and greatest', I do use a double CPU Xeon that sports a 16 physical/32 virtual core. Kaleidoscope works okay as long as I follow all recommendations of buffer matching between it and DAW. However, I can see continually how the first core is hitting exponentially harder than the rest. (1st core from 30-60% while the rest are hitting closer to the 2-8% range. Looking forward to seeing what you have coming in the next update to see how it's improved, but it seems to me that only a certain amount can ever be realized as long as the OS continues to do what it does without considering programs like the ones the modern musician is pushing through them?Galbanum wrote:22-Core Xeon E5 V4 (Broadwell Xeons)...

That's odd. What host? What OS?BBFG# wrote: Kaleidoscope works okay as long as I follow all recommendations of buffer matching between it and DAW. How many of the "test 1" preset can load at once, following the directions posted back a few pages (preset is there also).
Dual socket Xeon, dual 8-core, yes? So this is Sandy Bridge generation?

I've been procrastinating a new system. Probably going to wait for the next tick. But wow what a setup that probably makes.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

Haven't run those test scenarios, these are just observations as I'm experimenting with the plugin itself. Most things run this way in Sonar's way of distributing things; with it being a little more noticeable in plugins known for higher CPU usage. Can't say at all that it is Kaleidoscope's fault all by itself. And yes, they are the Sandy Bridge 8 core (2.9Ghz) Running 32GB ram on one and 20GB ram on the second. (RAM never exceeds 12 though - mostly runs around 7GB) OS is Win7 and Win8.1 with Sonar Platinum. Have not tried it at all in Cubase Pro (which I only run on Win8.1 on a single v3 Xeon)Galbanum wrote:That's odd. What host? Not entirely sure if it matters, but on many dual socket Xeon systems it is recommended (and/or explicitly enforced) to install the same amount of RAM on both sockets... Sometime uneven amounts of RAM causes performance issues. Not sure if it affects this particular config or not, but I'd try to look into it if I were you...

It makes no difference. I've run 16/16 with the same results. I've asked Lenovo support about this also and they've confirmed it doesn't matter. IIRC their recommendation for matching sizes is according to the minimum use. i.e. if your apps are hitting at 5GB then you should have at least 8 GB on each side (ant not try to get away with 8 on one side and 4 on the other). Mine never exceed the first 16 on either side.Galbanum wrote:Not entirely sure if it matters, but on many dual socket Xeon systems it is recommended (and/or explicitly enforced) to install the same amount of RAM on both sockets...
