FR: save folder and submix tracks as presets / templates

Saving a single track as a preset / template is great… saving an entire folder or submix as a preset / template would be VERY useful!

Right now it's a pain re-creating a drum submix (for example) from individual presets.

Added bonus: it remembers ALL routing (especially within racks).

This is certainly an option, but I can't see a way to import edit templates into an existing project edit, which makes this a "one-time use" thing – still useful at times, but severely limiting.

Unless someone can point to a way to easily import templates into an existing project edit?

I was thinking of Edit Clips. I haven't tried it. If you create a new edit for your project, import the edit template with all your drum stuff into it, then either insert it into the main edit as an Edit Clip, or copy and paste the tracks into the main edit (don't know whether that's possible either!).

The copy and paste suggestion sounds like a decent workaround. However - from what little documentation / info I could find (seriously Tracktion, please give us at least some basic docs!) - it doesn't sound like you can start a new edit from a template (!) Hopefully I'm completely wrong - will try later on.

Using edit clips is a potentially great suggestion - seems like a good way of breaking up the whole project into more manageable chunks. Though I wonder how the "back and forth" and clicking / switching would affect productivity and creativity. Definitely something I'll be trying out, at least!

couldn't agree more about the docs. Commercial software without included doc is amateur - not my rules - been that way since the beginning of the packaged software industry.

Buy the rights to Bill's book or tell us you will NEVER put out a manual. Guidance please.

Could you elaborate on this? Perhaps with an example? I'm unsure if the macro system goes deep enough to programmatically create and wire up racks.

I have tried it with rack filters but it don't seem to work. But you should be able to setup your whole submix with the Macro's just minus your rack plugin. I am sure you saved your rack as a preset. So you can put it on the track after you run your Macro for your tracks and plugins in your submix.

Yes, I have the rack plugin stored as a preset, and the main instrument track (which contains the main instance of the rack plugin in it) stored as a track preset – this seems good enough to get started – creating the whole submix structure is the easier bit, it's the wiring up of the rack that's a bit more cumbersome, so unfortunately a macro wouldn't save much time here (but thanks for the suggestion!)

The key thing: to be able to save – for easy recall later – the whole structure of a submix with all it's settings, filters, racks and routings.
