Exporting MIDI from Consequence

Hello,

The Consequence bundled instruments are less than impressive - I was more interested in its ability to generate MIDI that could be exported to my VSTs etc.

Problem is that when I export the melodies, they sound very different to the patterns being played in Consequence itself. Arpeggios only sound once, etc. Is there something I am doing wrong when I drag and drop the MIDI into my host DAW? (I'm using Ableton Live 8, by the way. Latest version).

First you should download the latest version of Consequence.
Anyway the sound can be somehow different because the exported midi file only has the pure note data. A lot of expressions inside Consequence can't be expressed via MIDI. But the notes of the arpeggios should come through.

I must be doing something wrong for sure. If I wire Ableton up so that my other instrument is set to receive MIDI from Consequence directly, I can only hear the root note playing, and yet the instrument in Consequence can be heard playing the Arpeggiated pattern. Likewise, if I drag and drop the MIDI from Consequence, all three patterns sent out from Consequence only have the root note in them.

Do I need to change one of the parameters somewhere?

Its probably because of the ableton midi setup. There are actually 3 midi lines being played in consequence, one for each instrument. In ableton it either only plays the first one, or all 3 combined, I cant remember which it is.

So if you update to the latest consequence and do the drag n drop midi instead of routing the midi output, you get all 3 midi outputs in a separate midi file for each so you can pick which ones you want

What a dope! I was on 1.5.0 - didn't realise there had been an update to 1.5.1 - the MIDI works perfectly now. Just as I wanted Consequence to work! Its a great plugin - thanks!

PS - I agree about the sounds - many are better with the new update.

Hi ...

Is there a list somewhere of exactly which midi parameters are exportable in 1.51?

In other words, besides note data, which CC messages?

Are any of the modulation parameters equivalent to standard CC messages? For examples, in the Modulation Sequencer is Pan CC10 and Level CC7? What about velocity? Is that transmitted in some fashion?

When you say "A lot of expression inside Consequence can't be expressed via Midi," what do you actually mean? Is this because the internal instruments respond in special ways; or because settings of the instruments determine how they respond to standard midi messages; or, because there are non-traditional control messages sent to the internal instruments?

Finally, are you considering retooling a Consequence 2, which would permit complete independent sequencing of three tracks/ instruments so wouldn't have to be tied together on the Performance Sequencer and so the modulation sequencer could both address multiple modulation parameters per track/ instrument and standard midi cc parameters?

I think Consequence is cool ... but just the skeleton of a potential monster.

Thanks in advance.

Bump ...

4 1/2 years and no reply from Sugarbytes?

Can anyone confirm or disconfirm whether any midi data other than notes is exported when you drag and drop from Consequence?

Thanks.
