Im sure Ive missed something basic, but Ive been playing with a project that was started in T6, now brought in to T7 and realised that Im seeing an inconsistency with the availability of Clip Layer FX.
Basically, its just a little sound design experiment. Ive got three tracks, all of which contain the same audio clip, with slightly different time and pitchshifting, and a single instance of the MFX-Magma plugin on the track.
When the project was made in T6, the clips were basically added in an order pretty much like ; track1-> drop on clip, change pitch, time, set up the effect, tweak; track 2->drop on clip, change pitch, time, set up the effect, tweak; track 3->drop on clip, change pitch, time, set up the effect, tweak. tweak each track some more.
Hoever in T7, On two of those clips, those the first and third Tracks, the 'FX' icon that gives me access to Clip Layer FX is missing, and I cant work out why. Also If I slice up the clip on the second track into smaller clips, each shorter clip has it, but if I slice up the ones without it, they still dont have it.
If I drag a fresh copy of the clip in to a new Track, it has it.
Any ideas why it'd be missing? The clips are still loops, and they've not got linked clips, but changing either of these things doesnt restore the icon. If its not got it, nothing 'derived' from it gets it either. And I cant seem to cause it to disappear deliberately, in that or a different project Cheers.
edit : Latest T7, ie 7.0.26, x64 on Win 7 x64.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Are you sure the "FX" button isn't just hidden because the clip's are too narrow? If you zoom in do the buttons appear?
The other things that can disable Clip Effects are enabling warp time or reverse from the clip properties (both of these have clip effects equivalents though).

That's what it was! The clips were reversed. Ouchie, bit subtle, that one.dRowAudio wrote:Are you sure the "FX" button isn't just hidden because the clip's are too narrow? If you zoom in do the buttons appear?

Following from that, some sort of visual feedback on reversed/etc clips would be nice, it keeps throwing me.whyterabbyt wrote:That's what it was! The clips were reversed. Also
Im finding the fact that its a bit cluttered that on Clip Effects there are now 3 different 'places' for carrying out actions on the Clip Effects block... stuff horizontally along the top of the Clip stack, the 'A' icon on the corner of the Clips stack, and the vertical menu on the top of each layer in the clip stack. To my mind, the latter should also be horizontal, for consistencies.
Im also not understanding how/when automation should be available for a layer eg sometimes the 'A' is there and sometimes its not, even when you'd think it should be ie there's more than one parameter that could (should?) be automatable (eg Pan on the Layer version of the Volume plugin)
Finally, its a real PITA that it appears that even just adding a single automation point or moving one triggers a rerender of all the layers -and- their visual previews, which in turn gets priority over all the audio, meaning that everything goes silent every time I tweak something. Are Clip Effects not done in realtime, or something, as that's how it feels?
Dont get me wrong, its a nice feature, but Im finding it really clunky to use.
