Great example of confidence, better than a life full of fearmgw38 wrote:Much appreciated.Numanoid wrote:Yeah, sorry for not claryfing that, there was no demand from the seller that the payment was done as a gift, I did that myself.
Because in the end, I am happier when the full transfer goes to the seller, rather than paypal getting their cut

That's great, until you get burned - then you won't do it again. Yours is the better way, but it doesn't work in practice. All you've proven is that there are some good people here - great! But it only takes one scammer to ruin your day.
Better just to give Paypal their cut, everyone's protected and can sleep easy.

Even when using Friends and Family the PayPal organization gets its cut.
So it's up to us to make friends in this scary world.

People are so ignorant. If you use friends and family you didn't actually legally buy anything, you gave someone a gift. Your receipt doesn't prove that you bought anything, only that you gave a gift. Congrats for saving .50¢ though.

You're not ignorant if you do know
BTW, legally it would still be a purchase, you only forgo PayPal's insurance coverage. Anyway, only use F&F if you trust somebody. And if you do trust people, you might call them friends accordingly.

More importantly, How is this any different from simply pirating the software?mgw38 wrote:Just to clarify, I did not request it as a gift and had the paypal fees included in the asking/agreed upon price. And I am up to 52 posts now.Blue Phase Music wrote:^^^This is NOT advised.Numanoid wrote:I bought a second hand license from a seller, with less than 50 posts in the forum.
To test the water (so to say) I paid by sending the money as a gift.
I got delivered the license in not more than 12 hours.
For all the bad press the KVR seller forum has got of late, this is one piece of evidence that a seller even though with few posts can be trusted 100%
Most cases will be fine, but why take the risk?![]()
But seriously, if you increase the barriers of entry, prices go up. Basic economics.
The money transaction service didn't get their cut versus software developer not getting their cut.. in the end someone gets screwed out of their just dues for the service they provide (be it transaction or license) because someone wanted to save a few bucks.

I must have been doing something wrong, because any time I used the gift option (so I'd be sure the seller got their asking price) I had to pay the fees.VitaminD wrote:The money transaction service didn't get their cut versus software developer not getting their cut..
So Paypal still got their cut, it just came from me instead of the seller.

Yes, you did something 'wrong' if you were intending on using the gift option in the manner discussed here.sprnva wrote:I must have been doing something wrong, because any time I used the gift option (so I'd be sure the seller got their asking price) I had to pay the fees.VitaminD wrote:The money transaction service didn't get their cut versus software developer not getting their cut..

That is the whole point of why people are abusing the gift option at paypal -- to avoid the fees.Send money for free.
When you send money online to friends or family in the US from your bank account or balance, it's free for you and the recipient. When you buy a service or product, we charge the seller our normal low rate of 2.9% + $.30.

When sending money to friends, there's often a reason. You could be offering a monetary gift because your friend sent you a musical token of his appreciation. Is it a sale? Yeah, sure.
But if merely amicable, it could be seen as a mutual, reciprocal gift between friends.

It's terrible isn't it, the little guy managing to wrestle a couple of dollars from a Fortune 500 corp (or thereabouts). Oh well, I guess paypal gets it back by offering those horrendously bad exchange ratesVitaminD wrote:The money transaction service didn't get their cut versus software developer not getting their cut.. in the end someone gets screwed out of their just dues for the service they provide (be it transaction or license) because someone wanted to save a few bucks.
Good to know somebody is here to defend big business, maybe paypal is in line to sponsor the sales sub-forum

The sale terms, and thus usage of paypal, are not dictated by personal relationship between buyer and seller. There is a buyer and there is a seller. They could be best friends for 40 years. If they are using paypal to buy/sell an item, they are at obligation to the terms of paypal for a purchase transaction. There is no grey area regarding this matter.
So let's not manipulate the use of paypal and skirt around our obligation to the service to get what we want (a few extra dollars in our pockets). It's against the terms of usage to conduct your purchase through the use of the no (or limited depending on country / financial instrument used) fee gift option for paypal and you know it.
And the size of the company doesn't matter either. The company has a customer agreement to use the services they provide. It doesn't matter if is joes hole in the wall or a multinational corp. It is just another lame excuse to skirt fees you know you're obligated to pay.

Of course not, how would paypal otherwise manage to earn $8 billion a yearVitaminD wrote:The sale terms, and thus usage of paypal, are not dictated by personal relationship between buyer and seller.
