i dunno, i love thor.

And although on their own, the older ones don't seem like much, in layerd combis i have heard some truly incredible sounds come out of them.

Also, there are proper superb RE's now with frequent sales. There are some absolute synth *bargains* in reason land.

Thank God propellerhead stick to their guns re the vst support. It is THE most stable daw in existence, and likely always will be.

It's definitely super stable, and also super efficient here. Regarding the RE's, i don't really want to hop onto that train... Reason has always been sort of a ITB solution for me, and tbh, i don't see a RE either, which would improve things for me. Antidote has a nice architecture, but i wasn't that impressed by its sound. Also it would be a shame if i bought a couple of RE's now, and decided to sell Reason later (which is actually on my mind atm, really prefer VST's and a VST DAW), which would render the RE's useless, and NFR.

Fair enough man. I guess it's rather a case of presonal preference anyway. When i start up Spire (yes, fanboy much ), i know i get good sound out of the box, with quality fx, and with stuff like Replika and Valhalla verb added to that, i don't have to fiddle much with additional stuff, it just gives me the sound and functionality i want to have right in the plugins. I just don't feel that way when using the Reason factory stuff. Thor sounds pretty standard to me. I like synths with character, and Thor is just a bit too neutral sounding for me. But again, that's just personal preference. Admittedly, i haven't tried other RE's apart from Antidote, and i probably never will, because the VST market is so damn competetive, that i doubt that it can get much better. So it's more attractive for me.

Anyway, was worth a try really, and i'm sure if you dig deeper, you can do a whole lot of stuff with Reason. Just not motivated to do so here.

In ableton forum there were a few bitwig tpics, never got locked. There are also some very vocal users who always complain about Live, no ban, no locking.

I guess there are companies that just cant take criticism.

This thread is referring to Reasontalk, an indy user forum where many of the old "PUF" regulars congregate these days. There is no company user forum any longer; PH closed it down a year ago when they rebuilt their website.

I noticed yesterday that the native compressors in V3 had a lot of latency reported in the performance meter, but third party plugs like T-Racks modules didn't. This is like 2ms vs .2ms. I am hoping these compressors perform better, or that maybe I'm misunderstanding something about latency.

If not session view i would like to have Patterns like in Orion and Caustic. Like Reason have in the drum instrument(don't remember the name, and don't have Reason installed son can't check it out). That would be fantastic.

To get back to the original topic: After visiting Reasontalk sporadically for a while now, i must admit that there's something weird about their topic deletion policy. I saw some critical topics removed pretty quickly, which made me think a little bit, why those have been removed, because frankly, those weren't really that bad, compared to some topics here maybe. Also the one or the other there left the impression on me that he's, to say it cautiously, a bit overly positive about Reason the whole time. But those are all just speculations, i wouldn't go as far as to say it is "run by Propellerhead" or something. Yet it seems a bit weird every now and then. But, hey, what do i know. There's been a lot of flaming about Reason there too, and "I leave Reason now, byez." topics and all that. Actually, it seems to me it's pretty much 50 - 50 for the people advocating Reason, and the ones criticizing it pretty regularly. But, tbh, i can understand a lot of the points people make about Reason now. It has changed a lot since version 2.5. which i used back in the days. Nowadays, i hardly find the way to start, when i open it up. I mean, you used to start with a mixer, and add your devices to it, and maybe route some, but now, there's so much stuff packed into it, that i can hardly call it the clear, overseeable in-the-box environment it used to be once. It also seems like that there has been so much stuff added, and with the mixer view, that it hardly fits in the window. I mean, it's ok on a 1920x1080 display, but on my 1366x768 laptop's display, it's horrible to use.

It just bugs me no one in reasontalk seemed to be bothered by the fact PE is repackaging rx2 loop packs into a pretty UI and call them an instrument and quite expensive at that; Which is sad as the loop themselves are quite good, you just can't load any of them in Dr Rex which is where all the fun is.

I agree when I initially see their new UI (but bought anyway because drag & drop). After using it for a while I do think in actual use it's a reasonably good single window design if you're willing to look away from the elephant of the room with view can't be split vertically).

And then to answer user request they did this bastardized version of sidebar in rack window when it's detached but not mixer and does not properly follow selections... So much for workflow eh.

yes, not 'run' by propellerheads.. but it would be naive to assume that this shilling doesn't go on and quite often. mo at that. i still use an old version 3 sometimes for drums etc ( and the rex player) but propellerhead's refusal to think 'outside the box' (literally) made me lose interest ages ago..

I think Reason with it's included Rack Extensions because of the releaser "The Chronologists" logic gating and counters and stuff and with it's included sequencers, arpeggiator's, even euclidean sequencer and their sample and hold plus special envelope controls and custom LFO's... what I think is that it's the best modular tool in the world far better forever than C.R.E.A.M., M.A.X. or the Kyma or Bitwig. Reason could never be defeated for total ease of use nice design and the ultimate variety and flexibility. However what is lacking is sounds that punch through the whole mix thus making it so that no other sound in the mix can be heard and also perfect presence and fidelity unless you try your hand at rewire and program or select sounds with perfect fidelity. No other preset/sample library with it's own engine matches even 10% of the perfection of Reason's MAAAAASSIVE preset and sample library but if you want total fidelity you need to use rewire and be skilled enough. Rewire helps with that "up front"/"clear"/"hardware presence" if you are selective properly with programming

Just wondering, why do you bundle the Kyma in with Reason? They are very different from each other... wouldn't compare them at all... The Kyma is far beyond modular, if there is such a thing.... it's multi-dimensional.....
