Same here. I'm sure I read $89 was an intro price ... $129 full price. Can't find it now ...

Yeah, I stand corrected, it says in the kvr news announcement that it's an intro price.

The actual vocoder portion in the bottom left doesn't differ from a standard vocoder IIRC.

The killer difference for me is the stuff the audio analysis module enables. You can use the 'qualities' of the input as modulators. Things like 'noisiness' and spectral peak as well as more common things like envelope and pitch extraction you often see in other plugs. These can be patched anywhere, much like you would an envelope or LFO. Using these modulators it's possible to get something akin to babbling (though unintelligible) speech synthesis without involving the vocoder module at all, for instance.

it's a kool effect ... i own the rest of his plugins, and could possibly buy it - haven't ruled it out anyway. anyone feeling 'meh' or wondering what it does your other effects don't, well I suggest using a vocal sample/loop ...or any other acoustic loops or phrases you might have - which seems to be working for me.

i tested it with a vocal loop and found good results within a few presets that convinced me that it is a contender for a purchase. it's definitely a case of fine tuning the source material and the patch ... so, keep at it (I put my fav filter between the source and virta). though, granted, after flicking through all the presets only about...maybe 10% of the presets suited the source, so it needs more 'work' than some other FX. but that's not unreasonable, given the nature of the effect IMO. I'm discouraged from doing too much patch building since the demo can't save presets.

well, it is definitely a cpu pig - but this is kind of to be expected from madronalabs at this stage... I can live with freezing/bouncing where needs be.

one thing I'm feeling is seriously missing is a step sequencer modulator ala aalto/kaivo ... i think the possibilities are very much hobbled without it, and this is a key modulator in the rest of the trinity. It's a pity because, in the gui there is an unneccessarily large amount of GUI real estate given to the formants section. it really only needs to be a third of the size. half at a generous max. the sequencer modulator could go there ... this may be the one factor holding me back from a purchase. Randy is usually pretty precious about feature requests, ime, so I don't hold much hope for him adding it at this stage - especially since it would not be in line with the rest of the trinity aesthetically (it would be at the bottom of the gui, as opposed to the top like the other plugs). But it's a glaring ommission as far as I'm concerned.

I was surprised to see that omitted as well. It just seems so fitting to have the seq in there to modulate all kinds of formants stuff (be it the vosim oscillators or the vocoder).

The demo version Ive just downloaded is VirtaWinDemo1.0.1.zip dated on the 29th, and its still doing it; presumably its not that one and there's a fixed version still to come?

I'm testing the 64 bit version on Windows - downloaded the 1.0.1 demo last night, and all audio module outputs appear to be working, i.e they are all sending out unique control signals that stop when I stop feeding them audio (pre and comp send audio). The noise module sends out noise constantly though, however it does appear to be affected by audio input...

Did you previously install 1.0? I installed 1.0.1 on top of that, and it didn't actually overwrite the VST. I had to manually delete it and then do another install. But yes, 1.0.1 did resolve the issues.

OK, Ive tried reinstalling again, this time taking time out to delete the existing version of the .dll file. And that would appear to work now. Looks like it perhaps didnt overwrite the old one.

Yeah, a few people (including me) had this issue with the update over at the Madrona forum. Installing the update 'over' the original didn't update and left the original DLL in place. I deleted it manually, installed 1.01 and that did the trick.

I find exploring this plugin so inviting that I'm not getting anything else done.

Only one small complaint. I really like the background slate blue color, but wish I could have a lighter background for better contrast with the font color. Other than that, I'm digging Virta.

I don't see anyway of doing anything with this in Cubase at the moment (except for getting the intermittent hiss that says its a demo version). Bummer. It seems really cool, and there are pleny to of examples of vocoders and related things that are built to have the appropriate routing in Cubase.

Nice work MillerSam. Absolutely loving Virta here. Bought it on release day. Its wild!

Bought it yesterday, one of most radical sound changers i've used. Very many-sided tool.
