The keynote is very cool, and I dig what you guys are going for and to what level of modelling you appear to be attempting.Urs wrote:Also, some more info embedded in our Superbooth keynote presentation:

For instance, it's really nice to see that you guys are looking at microphone and room modelling as part of this. Part of the goal should be to model the sound of a recorded drum kit, which would mean, OH and room mics, in addition to the directs. But it would be really cool if users could setup their drum mics in whatever configuration they please, and if we could even change the type of room.
Also are you modelling as deep down as individual tuning lugs? For instance, even with a digital drum tuning device, it's still not possible to get all the lugs exactly in tune with one another (though you can get close). I'm sure those little differences will add up across the 10 lugs of my Black Beauty.
Also, how, if at all, do you deal with modelling where the stick makes contact with the head and how this changes the sound? If every hit sounds dead center, it might not sound quite right, but at the same time, variation isn't always desired too.
Also, what about the type of head? Skins versus mylar, clear vs. coated, etc. Even the age of the drum head has a huge impact of how it sounds. I'm new to drumming, but the biggest eye opener after getting an acoustic kit was how huge a difference new heads, and a fresh tuning makes. Sure, I cheated using a digital tuner, but at the same time, it made me realize that some good drummers I played with over the years weren't doing a great job tuning their kits.
How about cymbal types? I don't know what makes cymbals sound so different from each other, but the wide range of sounds available from the different cymbals is huge. I'm very interested to see where this project goes over time. Cool stuff.

So it would be something like.Pianoteq but for drums?
There is the cuestión in the presentación about including different synth drum engines, hope it will. An ultimate drum designer drum machine.
And if u-he is going in to modeling acoustic Instruments I wonder if we will se a piano someday in the distant future. Will really love to see what the u-he team could acomplish.

We'll see where it goes.
Today is last day of Superbooth, I think from Monday or Tuesday on we'll be able to share more thoughts.

About the positioning, notice the radial controls in the UI, one is for the stick placement and one for the output (will include mic modeling later on).
It’s far to early to think of a concrete product vision, but we sense a lot of familiarities with what was requested here, what users brought up at the booth and what was already on our minds.
It just takes time. While the kettle model has already gotten pretty far, I had to implement the cymbals in quite a hurry. They sound trashy and will be revised fully after the show...
BTW, here’s a true rarity. The boss doing a workout on something that doesn’t have any black & white keys...

Crazy news! Didn't expect such a project - Can't wait (but I'll have to) to hear the final version!

Yes, but for Neubauten you need to model steel springs, shopping carts, and PVC pipes.Urs wrote:Some fans of Neubauten here?
Looks very cool. I was expecting a conventional drum machine but this is more innovative.

Yeah I hope so too. It'd be awesome if we'll be able to tweak our way to some crazy synthesized percs as well as physically modelled ones.rod_zero wrote:There is the cuestión in the presentación about including different synth drum engines, hope it will. An ultimate drum designer drum machine.
I'm dying to hear more about this.

I've been lurking here for quite some time and always liked the idea of a u-he drumsynth (I can never have enough drum synths and I'm a fan of u-he), but I didn't realize you guys were actually really working on something already, so this is very exciting!
Really cool stuff!
As others already said, I'd really like if this could go from synthetic to semi-real and everything in between.

We would be nuts not to add models of analogue drum synthesis into it.NerdMcBoon wrote:As others already said, I'd really like if this could go from synthetic to semi-real and everything in between.
