Tape Delay bug in 1.4a

I mentioned this before, during the beta-testing, but the bug is still there: tape delay still produces some clicks and high-freq noise, even if the + sign isn't turned on. Its easy to tell the difference if you try version 1.26 and then 1.4a.
So I went back to 1.26 for now. It works ok, but every time I load a song with EVE it says 'error while reading files inside EVE sub - EVE data - directory'. It says this once for each instance of EVE in the song. But EVE actually seems to find the data files and loads and plays fine.. how can I get rid of the annoying error messages?

p4 2.1ghz. I will try to make a mp3 for you where the noise is best heard.

good, thanks,
I may send you a temporarely version with no echo switch, so you can have limiter at least

ok, mp3s up.
noisy 1.4
clean 1.26
Here is the info to duplicate it:
I used preset "Fast JV 1" from the FK2 bank. I turned up L & R delay volume to full, turned up delay time to 130ms or so, turned up degrade to full, ensured + sign was dark. After a few seconds I turned down the degrade to zero (thats why the noise fades at ~13 sec)
I did the same thing in 1.26 and there was no noise at all. Something is funky in the degrade code you added to 1.4 I think.

yes, I can hear the noise, but so far I wasn't able to reproduce it in realtime with EVE
admittely I didn't try for along time yet, <grin>
anyway I worder about the other EVE users!!!!
nobody else can reproduce the famous "floyd" noise?,

Ok. Well its not a big deal, I can just use 1.26 which works perfectly. Its just I'm getting this stupid 'error while reading files inside EVE sub - EVE data - directory' each time EVE 1.26 loads. How can I get rid of that?

using the update 1.4, LOLfloyd wrote:Ok. Well its not a big deal, I can just use 1.26 which works perfectly. Its just I'm getting this stupid 'error while reading files inside EVE sub - EVE data - directory' each time EVE 1.26 loads. How can I get rid of that?
seriously though I would find out the noise problem

ok, checked more with Puse Sine wave, in 1.4 the Echo is not exactly the same as n 1.26 even with "+" off, the Degrade range is extended, floyd,

I did that since the Degrade in previous version was mostly unaudible for many users, <grin>
so if you turn L & R delay volume to full and Degrade to full, you do hear some intentional noise,
what I found is that Delay Time, Delay Degrade and Mixer Delay send knobs are noisy, and this noise is recorded from Echo and reproduced for the feedback duration!
anyway in normal playing I never hear that noise,
what you showed in your mp3 is kind of extreme usage or am I wrong?
do you still hear the noise if you wait for echo to fade and play again without moving the knobs?
limiter on or off?
thanks

I didn't have the limiter on.
I originally noticed the noise during normal playing as very slight crackles that I never heard before 1.4 - some presets have degrade turned all the way up I guess...
tbh I'm not sure I like the tape degrade algo either way. At the extreme end of the spectrum its too crazy to use, and at the low end (with the + sign off) it sounds like pops and crackles from my ASIO driver
I was hoping for something more like the tape mode in the Kjaerhus classic delay, but failing that I'd just like the clean delay from 1.26

possibly that for sure, since as I said, many preset had that for the Degrade was not noticeable
that shouldn't happed, when the knob is hard left Degrade is off,and at the low end (with the + sign off) it sounds like pops and crackles from my ASIO driver
anyway I'll improve the effects for next update
