played with the beta last night, and...am seriously impressed. have been using electra2 for a long time, but... this is, for me, tone2's best moment yet. it's a gorgeous-sounding thing. did a couple of demos for it, and they sound great.

i keep trying to cut down on synth plugins. had it down from millions (ok, about 12) to four. then added arcsyn. and now, adding icarus. worth it.

How do people get a beta?
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

i've done beta testing for tone2 (among other developers) for a long time . email the company, tell them why you'd be useful to them...

Tone2 added an offical comment concerning presets that will be included in Icarus:
https://www.facebook.com/Tone2Audiosoftware/
Tone2 Icarus will ship with over 1000 patches, created by a large team of professional sound designers. The synthesizer will include a comfortable patch browser, which helps you to find the right sound quickly. Most patches can be morphed with the modwheel, which makes it easy for you to create tracks with impressive movement.
At that Facebook page as a reply to this someone asked if Icarus will include a waveform editor besides a wavetable editor. This will be incdeed the case while i could not tell many details about that yet.
What i could tell is that single waveforms in a table could be either loaded from WAV files or created from scratch (or first imported and then edited).

good news
Best service news:

ICARUS by Tone2
3D Wavetable Synthesizer

Tone2 expanded the wavetable concept, allowing to cross-blend waveforms with an additional dimension for morphing.

Next to its wavetable capabilities it also offers resynthesis, true stereo architecture, hypersaw oscillators, a wavetable editor, modular effects, a vocoder, dual filter section, programmable arpeggiator and a comfortable patch browser

One of the major flaws in all of these products are the lack of an master output filter.
You allways have to reach for a third party plug and this is massive counter productive.
Therefore these products will' never be used fully in my set up.
I informed about this @Tone2 their answer:
-we did this on purpose to allow the user to be more creative and come up with better sounds..wtf!!
-there was no more room left on the gui to implement this..yet more wtf!

Me thinks :tu:

Three dimensional wavetables are so boring. I want nth dimensional wavetables.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Yeah, forget how to make my softsynths sound 3d. I want em to sound nd.

Hi poppers,
"One of the major flaws in all of these products are the lack of an master output filter."

What do you actually mean with a "master output filter"?
Which kind of 3rd party plugins do you use as a substitution and could you give an example/name of such plugin?

If you mean an EQ Icarus has a built-in EQ section (at the lower right of the GUI besides the dedicated Limiter), the FX section has EQ modes too (besides many other FXs) and the dual multimode filters also got some EQ m,odes with a morphable shape.

Electra 2.1 has a dedicated EQ too and like some other Tone2 synths (e.g. Nemesis) it also has an EQ as an insert FX.

Not sure to who at Tone2 you talked to or if this was about another synth than Icarus but i am one of the Tone2 Beta testers and just asked Markus (the developer). He does not really seem to remember such question and/or that reply regarding Icarus.

i don't see the advantage of an output filter(not per voices) i see a good point for fx per voices :)

Guys,

Response Troels Tone2:

1/Most synthesizers have a filter by the end of their processing chain, or have similar structure, this makes sound design sound similar.

2/We believe it's healthy to get a bit away from your comfort zone, maybe you'll end up creating more original sounds?

1/depends what filter (algo) you put into it + the ingredients you put in before. You can make a kid believe this story.
2/the most rediculous answer imo

Post

I fail to see the need for a master output filter, or how this is counter productive... How many other synth plugins have such a master output filter? @poppers, can you name some?

Tone2: "..but even if we wanted to integrate a master filter we don't have space to do it."

Even a more rediculous answer.

@Ingonator;

I know about the eq method but these are not up to par with a distinct Filter design. (it is a no go as a filter)

Imo a synth with this price tag should contain a master filter (with options). It's a basic but fundamental ingredient in any instrument.
