Nothing is decided yet..
I vote for a "general purpose synth drum thingy". If my vote counts at all. And I know it doesn't. But now it's expressed. :)

Yeah definitely synthetic sounds too. Otherwise I'm out. For those times when I need a real drum, I go for EZdrummer that includes a lot of cool played grooves already.

The idea behind this project is that it actually makes you *want to play* things yourself, since it allows for complete immersion into the action, rather than hear triggered individual samples. The drumming community constantly asks for tools that reflect the playing style and that offer real interaction (apart from not capturing the full dynamics, the infamous machine-gunning effect and only a handful of hihat transitions (traditionally, the hihat is probably the most expressive part on a real drumkit)). Then think snare buzz rollls and cymbal swells, sympathetic resonance; this is all not possible with samples. When you excite a kettle drum or a piece of metal, every hit makes the sound pile up to something more complex and organic, it's all interactive, and every component is a small stone in the big pond. It's a feedback system.

But we hear you. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter much if that system follows the laws of mechanics or if it's analogue circuitry. I see no reason why an 'artificial' drum sound shouldn't be as responsive and expressive.

I believe that realistic synth will be a huge hit. I totally understand what real drummer want. It's just something I don't need. I'm just one small portion of the market and a possible client base :D

Maybe the U-he drum synth will make me getting drummer lessons :tu:

i would love to see something like a performance mode, where i can trigger a whole pattern with just one midi note. Like in break tweaker by iZotope. :)

Never too late for that. In fact, drumming is often very rewarding when you've learnt other instruments before. Rhythm is embedded in all cultures on earth (some more, some less), we all have it in us.

I just started drumming, after 25 years of bass guitar. Never really confessed that I always wanted to. Got myself an e-kit (the one we had at Superbooth), but HW modules and sample libraries fall a bit short in capuring all the tiny nuances you have to hear in order to learn stuff properly (rudiments, coordination, precision, stamina, muscle memory etc.). This is currently a great motivation in the development process, and sort of a quality factor. We're partnering with professional drummers to ensure that it 'feels' right. And if that all makes people eventually use their 4 limbs as 'input device', we appreciate it. :)

In its present form does this simulate convincing snare drum buzz rolls?

Absolutely...

I think I get myself and for my baby girl an e-kit and lessons, but only if you provide us the U-he prototype :D

Would love to be able to push the physical models outside the realm of normal instruments, and mix with analogue. Real snare and cymbals resonating off an analogue kick with choice of mics :D

I'm biased. Quoting a drummer at our booth last Friday: 'man that really sounds like a f**kin snare drum!'

Good to know; it would be informative to hear some audio demos.

Given that the final product specs have yet to be finalised; will development take a significantly long time (years) before a useable preview demo (not necessarily fully completed product) becomes available?

We just came back from the trade show, it might need some time to get everything up & running again. When the time is right, we might surely post some stuff.

Understood, thanks.

Well I have use for an acoustic drum model in my set up. But having electronic drums on it would make it great, analog kick plus acoustic hats and cymbals is something I love to use. A one stop solution for my needs.

Also no more sample loading wu-hu
