Satin_noise level

I've been using Satin in my final mix/mastering output for a little additional tape sizzle.
Patch is SR Master Buss1 (IEC 15 ips)
I used to have last in my chain but then realized (??) that it should be before final limiting.
So I turned off Soft Clip (which I was using when it was the final plug)
I'm getting some generated noise when everything is finished. No input but some (very, very little; maybe -80db) it is registering on the VU meter in Logic.
Can anyone tell me about this. I understand that it is probably below hearing range. Is this normal?
How do you (anyone) use this plug in the mastering stage?
Thanks,
Ron

That's what Satin does - it's a tape emulator, so it adds tape noise.
I use a gate after every instance (I use it as a tape-based delay).

Right. But there are some patches that are less (sometimes none) noisy. I am looking for the tape warmth and hype.
So maybe there's a control for "added," tape hiss. Where I can turn it down.
Or is there a better choice for adding tape saturation to orchestral music?
I'm worried that there may be some residual noise after the cue is over that I am just cutting off. But my ears are old, (basically made of tin) and they constantly ring.

You can just turn it off or you can use the noise reduction (Dolby and DBX emulations) to kind of do a full on tape experience. These boxes could be thought of as a part of studio tape sound, too.

If you still want the noise in your mix, just turn on "Auto Mute". It will mute the noise when no signal is passing through it.
