Well, I have made a decision.
After I get my IRS refund, I'll be purchasing this synth. It just sounds too good to pass up. The GUI isn't the worst I've ever seen. On the plus side, it's super big. Eventually, I'll get used to the layout and even be able to find the main volume knob.
Were it not for Falcon, I'd nominate this as synth of the year. But I wouldn't be surprised if it won.
Looking forward to Music Radar's next top 50 synths list.
I'd be stunned if this wasn't on it.

Yes, I was also positively surprised by the size of the GUI, that really helps a lot, although I still can't read everything.wagtunes wrote:Well, I have made a decision.

Posting online is not always clear. You can't see facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc. Yet, I think it's important to behave the same online as you would in person. For good, bad, and ugly . . . I try to be the same person everywhere. Some of the stuff people post is misunderstood. Other stuff people post would never be said face-to-face without a fist fight. We need to remember that we are a relatively small group, who have lots in common. At the end of the day, does it really matter which virtual synth someone prefers? Having said that, ArcSyn is pretty cool. I look forward to having skin options. Can someone please create a dark, mysterious one. hehe

I can't say that I've spent enough time with ArcSyn to answer this myself - so at the risk of being a gobshite, I was wondering why the first LFO's wave level is defaulted to 127? I'd love to take advantage of this, yet when I take a look at many of the presets, rarely do they use this setting on the first LFO...

Hey, I see you use MUX in your signature? What do you think of it? I'm currently making a library for it and the open endedness is actually making this more difficult than I anticipated because I'm having trouble deciding where to go with a lot of these patches. Sometimes limitations are a good thing.liquidsound wrote:My apologies, I couldn't resist this one.wagtunes wrote:I hope you guys are better musicians than you are comedians.

Seriously, i had to look for half a minute or so too to find the volume knob. Simply because that's some contrast less, and generally unclear GUI. Developing reasonable GUI's is a fine art, i don't feel it has been accomplished here very well.

I got lost in studying FM for quite some time now and I left off at the MUX when I used it mainly for combining VSTs and Rewire Reason in it. I never attempted to create Synths or effects with it.
I'm about to buy a Moog Sub 37 and I was thinking to create something similar with the MUX but I need to get to know the latest MUX build and learn more about synthesis as well.
Right now I'm trying to reverse engineering Simon's patches to learn ArcSyn because I'm in love with the sounds that are coming out of it. Stunning synth. And the skin... yes. Now I kind of like it more and more.

Hmmm, create a Moog Sub 37 in Mux. Sounds interesting. I just might give it a shot.liquidsound wrote:The MUX...wagtunes wrote:Hey, I see you use MUX in your signature? What do you think of it? Amen to that, it's not drowning in features but it's extremely versatile none the less. Love it.liquidsound wrote:

I finally downloaded the demo.
Sounds effing amazing. Actually, it can be the next big thing for trance because the supersaw sounds very convincing - the sound reminds me on Sylenth, bright, warm and fat. The vocal filter and various bitcrusher modes are utter fun, instant Infected Muschroom-like talking leads.
The GUI is ugly but clear and functional. Well, seems that I may need this synth

If you assign an LFO you normally want it to modulate at full level, then you set the amount of that fully modulating LFO affecting the target in the matrix, if you start building LFO chains/sequences the level for any added LFO-step in the chain is 0, so you can set it according to your needs in the chain.Bodhisan wrote:Now that the dust has hopefully cleared, any thoughts?Bodhisan wrote:I can't say that I've spent enough time with ArcSyn to answer this myself - so at the risk of being a gobshite, I was wondering why the first LFO's wave level is defaulted to 127? I could pretend I understand...but I don't.Sampleconstruct wrote:If you assign an LFO you normally want it to modulate at full level, then you set the amount of that fully modulating LFO affecting the target in the matrix, if you start building LFO chains/sequences the level for any added LFO-step in the chain is 0, so you can set it according to your needs in the chain.
I see the wave level as affecting the pitch - at least when using it as a melodic "sequencer." I'm being lazy. I should simply use it in other ways - but it still begs the question (from my mouth) as to why, if it's set as the default, why are so many of the patches much, much lower? And I guess I'm so stuck on this because the bottom of the GUI is at the bottom of my screen (and I can't resize it - Logic bug?), so it takes me forever to swipe down with my mouse to get they damn 127 down to much lower numbers...at least 15 swipes - and sometimes it swipes back up!
