btw I have all of Tone2s products and their customer service is second to none from my experience. I do not understand all the hate on kvr for them at all.

Given it will be out this Summer, which could mean Sept. , they sure have an active marketing campaign, early on. So.. Hopefully it won't sound like just another VST-Synth we already have. But rather deliver something new, and fresh sonically that we haven't heard before.wagtunes wrote:Gotta love Tone 2's over the top marketing.kokotte wrote:https://www.tone2.com/html/icarus.html

What exactly? They seem to be completely different in terms of architecture and features to me. E.g. the heart of Electra2 is its 4-layer-architecture, it also has mono-oscillators where Icarus seems to have stereo oscillators, with unison and stereo panning, which is already a big improvement, and difference to Electra2. Also it's a true wavetable synth, while Electra2 only did wave "morphing". Apart from the obvious things, like the filter types it shares with other Tone2 synths, and the resynthesis features, which seem to be a lot more comprehensive though in Icarus, i don't see much of an overlap. Au contraire, i find that Icarus is a lot more "mainstream" than the other Tone2 synths which all seem a bit "special" to me, which is a plus in my book, because i like "classic" stuff which doesn't feel like reinventing the wheel.Frantz wrote:Thanks for the detailed response. I still wonder if the new features of Icarus could have been bundled into Electra as Electra3. The two synths seem to have a lot in common based on what I've read.Ingonator wrote: For example Icarus has no sample playback, no layers and could not do FM and Sync between two oscillators while FM and Sync in Icarus work in a different way (with additional Oscs using a few fixed waveforms like e.g. Sine, Saw or Square).
In Icarus The Hypersaw and Supersaw modes (in te Unison modes) do work with all waveforms while in Electra 2 they are mostly limited to the Sawtooth.
Currently Icarius seems to include more Filter modes than Electra 2.

Um they just advertised it, no one has even heard it yet apart from a few beta testers. Why do so many say, that it's one of the most powerful synths?
I do wish their advertising had less snake oil and more facts.

"By using Icarus you can save $xxxxx, since you can replace a wonderful collection of hard- and software instruments with a single synthesizer. An additional benefit for you is, that you no longer have to deal with a large number of different user interfaces."
Yes we are finally saved from having all them lovely different synths, finally!....

Try the demo version when it's available, and judge it for yourself. I have the beta, and think it's great so far. It has some of the best sounds I have heard from any synth.aMUSEd wrote:They are certainly good at piling on the bswagtunes wrote:Gotta love Tone 2's over the top marketing.kokotte wrote:https://www.tone2.com/html/icarus.html
