This is a great thread! An entirely different method is to drop your sample in MuSynth's Sampler, extract two single-cycle waveforms from your sample for each of the Oscillators, and mix the three sources in MuSynth. (BTW, the timbre of waveforms in field-recorded samples can vary a lot from wave-to-wave, so you may need to audition several to find the right pair.) I use that sample+oscillators method if my sample has a distinctive envelope and timbre that I can only fully hear in the sample, and my sample needs a clearer musical tone (e.g. root note) that I must add with Oscillators. In addition, if you are using your sample to play a melody, you can analyse your sample to identify its dominant chord and key, which will help you choose notes for tuning and layering Oscillators, and give your sample a more harmonically-rich timbre.

Might be a dumb question, but why isn't the MFO called a wavetable Oscillator? Does it perform other functions besides wavetable synthesis?

If I'm honest I haven't a clue where to start! I'm going to look up on the web see if I can learn something of wavetables and how to start with them. I don't really understand their function at all, so think that's my first port of call :-)

Thanks for your advice Taifunk, you've been a great help.

It has other functions built into it such as Phase Distortion, Hard Sync emulation, Spectral filtering, etc...

it is a pleasure :tu:
absolutely not a stupid question,it is a good question :)
exactly as said dakkra have other functions, great functions, and it would be wrong to call them only wavetable oscillator.
MFO is not limited only to load wavetables but they have an advanced editing function and allow you to create your own wavetable in very simply way, this allows to simulate different types of synthesis through the wavetable synthesis.

try this patch, is the same patch that I have already posted, is an old patch and I'm doing something better, anyway I corrected something and added two lfo to modulate the wave index and two modulation mapper for the filter,so you can use the multipoint envelope also for the filters.
The example is a bit extreme there are a few too many clicks :o
atm I can not do better, but so you can make an idea where to start
Tomorrow I try to do some good example so I can help you.

I made a very simple patch, a mfo and 3 modulation sources for wave index, added some examples.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy.

Thanks for the presets, I've had a quick look but am none the wiser. I need to invest a bit of time on this which I don't have just yet. I'll let you know how I get on. :tu:

No problem,thanks :tu:
