...though you may miss out on features and bug fixes that come with future updates (or those that have already been taken care of in releases since the one you're one) so if there's a ticket you would like me to have someone look at I'd be happy to do so. Just PM the information to me and I'll see what's up.

A thing I find interesting with the legacy patches versus the new ones, is that the CPU hit seems to be a lot smaller for legacy patches
Playing a patch from the new ST3 CS included lib gets me hits in 20% region, while legacy patches only hit in the low 10%, even when I stack several, in other words only half the hit of new patches
Anybody else notice the same (not the actual values, but that legacy patches hit less) ?

I certainly hope so, and I will do exactly that.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:I would report this issue you are having to IK Support as it is not the typical experience. This update 3.6.5 (also the full version based on the same code) has been available and downloaded/installed by quite a few since April 6th so it doesn't sound like a "first day glitch". I'm sure support can assist you in rectifying this issue.
I'd also like to say a more general thank-you, Peter. You have taken a lot of guff on this forum over the years, and I have no idea why. You do your best to help, and you're always friendly, and I at least thank you very much for that.

This is HUGE! Why isn't this news bigger? I just discovered it by accident. Just downloaded ST3 and about to try my all-but-forgotten ST2/SS2 and Miroslav libraries in it. Many thanks to IK for this decision!

Definitely thankful the free version allows legacy importing. I'm just wondering why this feature wasn't announced when this thread was created on 4/14? Peter even mentioned on the first page this version doesn't import legacy libraries. Then yesterday they updated their web site stating the free version includes the import feature. Almost like they included it by accident
. Either way, thanks IK!

This thread was started in August 2015 when the free version was expanded to enable the Custom Shop expansion libraries. It did not import at that time. Another KVRian started a thread for this new update, in this same sub forum. That one is probably less confusing since the new import function is the focus of it (and in the topic subject line).tony_12345 wrote:Definitely thankful the free version allows legacy importing. I'm not going to get into a war here but feel it necessary to state how I feel.
I remember reading, at the time, that ST3 free would not contain the import function, implying "Ever", and if you wanted to import legacy libraries you had to buy the full version, which in turn prompted many to buy into the hype and do the pre-order.
Now, once again IKM considers its bottom line instead of that of valuing customers and changes its policy.
Gotta say, this irks me and makes me reconsider my policy about buying any more of IKM's products.

I'm sorry you interpreted my posts in that way, I did my best to state "upon release" (as did our official statement about why ST3 was going to be 64-bit only and not have a free version at release) and simply that I had no knowledge of plans at that time (years ago). I have also tried to express the comparison between the product arc of SampleTank 2.x which also did not have a free version that imported/loaded commercial libraries for a couple of years after release so this is indeed similar to that arc. I appreciate your candor and opinion, and I'll do my best to word my posts in a way that avoids misunderstanding or misinterpretation going forward.dsan@mail.com wrote:I'm not going to get into a war here but feel it necessary to state how I feel.

Wait...."Fully Functional Free Version". Does that mean there is no difference in function between the paid version and the free version ? The only difference being the included sample library ?

I only have SE but as I've always been under the assumption that the size of the included sample library is the only difference between the versions. Wasn't it the same with ST2? I started into that with XL so I never used the smaller versions.

Not really sure who that would be embarrassing for...Numanoid wrote:We all bitched and moaned about not being able to import Legacy libs in the free Version of ST3fmr wrote:Oh, mine is sorted already. I had intended to move on completely from IK products, so I have ignored their posts. I did recently consider jumping on the SE version, but had decided I didn't want to do it just to play my old libraries.
Anyway, this is cool. I wish it had happened sooner, or even a decently priced pay-for-option (to import "legacy" libraries) at time of launch of ST3, but oh well. What's done is done.

You're right Peter. This is an old thread from last year.
