Everything that plays in ST2 should import. I'm using Translator to convert my Emulator banks to ST2 and then importing them. There are a few settings in ST2 that need to be adjusted when you import your own sounds..So far I've found that the velocity curves are the main ones to look at, as the variable curves aren't selectable in ST3. Other than that, if it's a professionally made ST2 bank, they seem to import perfectly. Esounds libraries are on sale right now, I'm going to pick up a few soon. $10 US for each classic instrument expansion..Too good to pass upreusenoise wrote:Esoundz st2 sample library too ?

This is indeed fantastic news, I wonder what happened to all the alleged 'reasons' for not doing this when ST3 was released in the first place? You know, the 'reasons' that Peter gave us, which weren't particularly convincing...
I have a ton of ST2 expansion libraries, and of course ST2 itself, and Sonik Synth, and Miroslav Philharmonik, and loads of Combis I made, so I'm going to be trying this tonight.

It is almost 2 years now since ST3 got published, a lot can happen in 2 years.basslinemaster wrote:I wonder what happened to all the alleged 'reasons' for not doing this when ST3 was released in the first place? You know, the 'reasons' that Peter gave us, which weren't particularly convincing...
There was no custom shop when ST3 got published, that got added later.
Now Legacy import for older ST2 libs has been added to the free ST3 CS version, another change and improvement.
I think it is better to be happy what we have got now, than to snipe at Peter about this...

Combis get Imported separately. But, check them carefully after importing. In the past, with a previous version of ST3 I have found that some are not imported completely or correctly. I raised a Support Ticket, but no solution has been suggested.basslinemaster wrote:This is indeed fantastic news, I wonder what happened to all the alleged 'reasons' for not doing this when ST3 was released in the first place? From what I can tell, ST3 does not allow you to use the modwheel to raise the volume of one part while simultaneously lowering the volume of another part. So, that pretty much broke many of the best eSoundz Combis which used the mod wheel to cross fade between two instruments.

I'm possibly being really dumb here but i don't seem to have a sub-menu. All I have in the browser is THE GRID freebie

It is also nearly identical to the product arc of ST2 which did not have a free version for years... But we've been down this road before, I did my best to try to find where I did not state "at release" and similar but have trouble finding examples which is probably why only paraphrasing may occur from some. It is OK, though, there's a right to have an opinion but I was never trying to mislead anybody and I'm sorry if there was misunderstanding or misinterpretation of any of my posts on the topic of a free version that imports.Numanoid wrote:It is almost 2 years now since ST3 got published, a lot can happen in 2 years.basslinemaster wrote:I wonder what happened to all the alleged 'reasons' for not doing this when ST3 was released in the first place? So I will relay the complaints and continue moving forward in continuing to provide any information and insight I may have at the time of writing posts. I'm glad you are happy with what was released, and hope you make some great and satisfying music with SampleTank 3 Custom Shop and the legacy libraries.

Well, I'm very surprised and GLAD that IK decided to implement the import & edit versions in the free versions! For people like myself who already have all of the previous ST2.5 sounds (except for the loop libraries), it's really beneficial to be able to now use the sounds that I know in 64 bit (with a better engine I might add). Yes, I don't have a lot of the new features that the newer instruments have, but I have the option now of updating if need be.
The new engine really does make a difference on the older sounds. It definitely brings out some gloss that I didn't notice before. As some have said, however, some of the multis don't translate correctly after import. I'm not a big user of them, but I can see where this would be an inconvenience for some seeing how this is a major feature of Sampletank. Besides a couple of files being corrupted, everything imported ok, so no big complaints here as I know what the product is and what to expect from it.
@spacekid, I have a bunch of Emulator banks as well. How well does the transfer to Sampletank files work? I understand everything will not be a 1:1 translation, but is there a big enough difference in most of the patches to be concerned?

Hey. Translator pro works the best(I think). I tried extreme also. Some of the banks, you get an error. IT will ask you what values to use. You will need to "change to use incoming values". then just do that over and over until the sampling conversion is complete. If you get no sound out of an instrument in ST2: check the V.curve (change to Flat) and the Amp (- values bring up volume)/ both in velocity tab, far left side. The filters are a big part of Emu, but if you're ok with just the basic sounds then it may be worth the trial and error. The layered presets come out as _Lyr 1, _Lyr 2, etc. so you have to rebuild them as multis. I'm enjoying doing it myself though. I'm just learning as I go. Let me know if you find a more reliable conversion software also... Edit* - I forgot to add, I had used Extreme sample converter to change my emulator banks to kontakt, so I have two sets to work with..an original in emu and an nki set. I'm still figuring out which works best. -the direct conversion or the files that have the .nki change first. Just something else to try if you wantSaukar30 wrote:Well, I'm very surprised and GLAD that IK decided to implement the import & edit versions in the free versions!
