Ever since updating to Version 7, Tracktion has been quite unstable on my Win XP Pro 32 bit system. Have any of you T7 users experienced this also?
In my commercial studio, I use Tracktion as a 24 track, out digitally via my RME Hammerfall HDSP9654, to digital mixing console. The final mix from T7 through the console is recorded back into my Tracktion DAW digitally onto 2 tracks at 24bit/44.1k. Everything is clocked properly. I am good with switching latency on my soundcard as I work. I also render (not freeze) any tracks in Tracktion 7 that have CPU-taxing plugins.
I do all of my initial multitrack recording, editing and track naming on a dedicated Mackie HDR2496 24-track recorder.
What is happening is this: I'll load up an edit in Tracktion 7, and even if there are no plugins on the 24 tracks I've loaded to play out to 24 different outputs on my soundcard, the tracks hiccup and sputter as they are played in realtime. Any work I do adding vst's or anything else, T7 is slow and sluggish and unpredictable in actually playing back without problems.
Interestingly (and fortunately) I am having no problem executing the same tasks on Tracktion 3.
Since I operate a commercial studio, I just can't deal with any holdups or bad behavior from my DAW, as it erodes confidence my clients have with me and my facility, and it costs us both time and money. So, it's back to T3 until I can get everything running smooth and stable and predictable in T7.
ANY HELP from any of you T gurus can offer me to do with T7 is most welcome. I will put in a ticket with Tracktion's help desk soon.

Hey Michael - publishing the full specs of you computer will also help - processors, RAM, what buffer side you run and driver type and version - as much detail as possible
If T3 is running better, then it would suggest the system is potentially quite old - which may not be a problem, you just might need to update certain other aspects to get a stable configuration with the current codebase - for example, there might be a new version of the ASIO driver for the RME that plays better
When you submit your support request, also provide the log file so we can take a look at whats happening on your system - might offer some clues - we are happy to help figure it out

Getting ready to go through the proper channels (submitting a support request). I'll get all the computer info together. I did just update the RME Driver as you suggested, but I must say that it was a white-knuckle undertaking because the soundcard has been rock-solid stable since I installed it back in 2008 when I first got my Sweetwater Creation Station audio-optimized PC. The reason for the white knuckles is simply that this PC is the heart of my commercial studio operation, and to lose that stability would be devastating. The installation of the new driver went smoothly, but it also involved re-flashing the soundcard's brain (!!), which went smoothly also.
After installing the new driver, the same issues occurred with T-7 vs. T-3. This instability even occurs when the cpu meter is down to single-digit percentages with no additional vst filters on the mix. Mixing the same edit in T-3, and everything works fine with no crackles/sputters.
