I thought SampleTank 3 just imported the legacy libs, so I made an instrument folder in Sample Tank 3 folder in Program files and put the content there and directed Sample Tank 3 to find them there
But I guess the content is also converted in some way, as the files Sample Tank 3 reads are found here (at least in Windows 10)
Users -> Public -> Public Documents -> IK MultiMedia -> SampleTank3
So I just deleted the files I had imported from, seems they are not needed after they have been imported.

Ah yes, the SampleTank 3 engine is a completely new ground-up rewrite, so a conversion is required in order to use the legacy libraries. We did this tutorial video on importing legacy instruments with SampleTank 3 and it could be helpful for some (though you no longer would need to view it):Numanoid wrote:I thought SampleTank 3 just imported the legacy libs, so I made an instrument folder in Sample Tank 3 folder in Program files and put the content there and directed Sample Tank 3 to find them there

@ Numanoid ....well I just followed the upgrade path.. I saw ST2 in the inst panel, but I assumed they were upgraded to fit with ST3...didn't realise they WERE the legacy libs haha!

Okay, I actually have the VST and Standalone versions of ST3CS 3.6.5 running (not the VST3 -- it doesn't even show up in Reaper, even though it's installed). Now I have a different problem.
I have tried everything I can to import legacy libraries (I have several, including Miroslav CE, Cinematic, Vocal, etc). Doesn't work. It finds them, updates them, creates the new files where it's supposed to... and then nothing shows up in the Instruments tab.
Interestingly, this is also the case with the ST3CS free content. I have three multis (Classical Grand Piano, Grand Piano Jazz, and Thematic Grand Piano), and no instruments. I have the MIDI loops for everthing, in the Patterns tab; but -- even though they are installed and apparently in the right place -- I cannot access the instruments themselves.
Maddeningly, when I start the program I get a message saying it's rebuilding the database of legacy instruments... which then don't show up.
I did successfully install The Grid. That seems to work fine.
Help?

I found a better way to adjust overall volume within Sampletank 3, instead of working in ST2. 1) The Velocity amp is there, it's in Blue. 2) Use the Envelope Level in the ADSR Filter section to make adjustments, in Red :

Don't throw anything at me but I have to make 100% sure that you don't see them under the "Imported Instruments" near the bottom of the list there?filkertom wrote:Okay, I actually have the VST and Standalone versions of ST3CS 3.6.5 running (not the VST3 -- it doesn't even show up in Reaper, even though it's installed). FLING FLING FLING FLING FLING < /monkey poo >

There is no list. There's no list of the 30 or so instruments that are supposed to come with ST3CS; there's nothing listed in the Instrument tab. Not the new instruments, not legacy instruments, not The Grid, nothin'. I've seen screen shots, including in the actual manual, that show where the "imported instruments" are supposed to be, but they ain't there.
I have the Multi's from The Grid. I have 3 piano multi's from ST3CS. I have the patterns from both sets. That's it.
I'm gettin' a mite peeved.

I can't honestly remember how ST2 sounded. Now that I'm a Kontakt user, it's worth buying the downloads from ST2 again and importing them on ST3? I have all of the SampleTank 2 XL.

It's very good. I have Kontakt as well. IK have improved the engines and the filters oh, and a major overhaul of the effects. There is a definite added headroom to the ST2 imports. Plus they barely dent the CPU meter. It's free, and the older instrument expansions are cheap..$10.00 at esounds, as I mentioned earlier: https://www.esoundz.com/landingpages/sampletank.phpwaltercruz wrote:I can't honestly remember how ST2 sounded. Are the converted files as large as the original ones? In other words, should I ensure that I have the same amount of free space on my hard drive as the ST2 files take up before trying to import/convert into ST3?Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:Ah yes, the SampleTank 3 engine is a completely new ground-up rewrite, so a conversion is required in order to use the legacy libraries. I believe they are the same size, I've been doing the conversions and deleting the old ones as I go. Maybe Peter knows exactly?bharris22 wrote:Are the converted files as large as the original ones? Crud! The main reason I purchased ST3 SE was for the ability to play my old sounds in 64bit DAWS. Had I known this was in development I would have just waited!
Besides the factory sounds that come with SE is there any difference now between ST3 SE and Custom Shop versions?

Sounds like your best bet would be to work with IK Support directly at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/mi/ as I do not know what could be causing the issues you describe. I'm sure they can get it all sorted.filkertom wrote:FLING FLING FLING FLING FLING < /monkey poo >

I do not know if they are the same size. There is a possibility they'd be slightly larger after the process of converting them so I'd make sure you have at least the same but best practice would be to ensure you have more just in case.spacekid wrote:I believe they are the same size, I've been doing the conversions and deleting the old ones as I go.
