FR: Zoom axis lock for editors

It would be nice to have an option to lock the zoom of an axis in the zoomable editors, so that using the scroll wheel would not effect the locked axis.
It would be especially handy for working with editors with a frequency graph.

P.S. I do know about alt-zoom.

+1.

I zoom with the wheel all the time and always immediately then 'reset' one of the axis.

Perhaps mouse modifiers would be better as this wouldn't clutter up the UI and you could more easily switch between locking X or Y. Clearly alt is passed through to the plugs correctly as, as you stated, it can be used to marquee zoom... so perhaps ctrl can lock one axis and shift the other?

If this does get done (which is probably unlikely due to the number of FR's recently!) holding middle mouse to move around a zoomed in window would be ace too. I use this all the time on various software and it feels very natural when you get the hand of it.

Another elegant way to introduce this feature without extra clutter. Would be to hover the mouse over the scroll you want to zoom and use the mouse wheel to zoom only on that axis.

Scroll bar? Yeah, that's a good solution too.

Um.. that is it's how it's now...
I just personally would like to have an option to have it locked as I much rarely zoom in verticaly in let's say, the envelopes and equalizers.
Ideally we could use modifier keys, but those have been told to not be properly parsed in some daws.

That's how what is? The scroll bar? Not on my system, on mine scroll wheeling the scroll bar moves it up and down (if zoomed in). What are you seeing?

Oh yes, sorry, I misread...tough workday
But then editing that would remove the scrolling of the scrollbar.

Well a lock button would add more clutter to the gui and there are only two axis so using the mouse wheel on one of the scroll bars would be the same as locking the other. Modifiers is a better solution to having the button there, but it wouldn't be very intuitive. We would need to learn and remember which key locks which axis. Even then they don't always work for everyone.
I think the mouse wheel over scroll bars would be the simplest and cleanest way.

You can always have right click axis for lock or something similar, no icon required (if it's cluttered, maybe you could try the minimal theme and a smaller scale? I use 80%)
A mousewheel movement over a scrollbar already performs scrolling of that scroll bar, can't just replace it.

It doesn't for me. When I mouse wheel over a scrollbar nothing happens.
So when you do it does it scroll both axis or just the one your mouse is over?

It works for me, but obviously you have to be zoomed in for it to work, or it doesn't do anything (as there's nothing to scroll). It scrolls the bar you are highlighting, so works for both X and Y axis.

Oh, I see what you mean now. I wasn't thinking about scrolling, just zooming. Brain fart.
Maybe the modifiers will be the best solution then.

Another option would be a smart auto zoom featur, PSP Neon has something like this, but it could be better, more "intelligent"

Makes sense, added to to-do list.
