I think Jerry would be upset to hear of his "death"....... it was Jerry's brother Bob who died recently. Alan the drummer has been dead for a while. Jerry is alive and well, he's in the wine business and still involved with Devo. He recently produced a song called "It's all Devo". Devo also re-released an easy listening album of their music.I am a fan of both Devo and Prince, but I wouldn't compare one to another. More info is available at the Club Devo website.annode wrote:No disrespect to the man and what he represented and accomplished, I get it...but I just didn`t care for it. I liked his 'flower-power' songs like Raspberry Beret , Alphabet Street and a few others from that album.
Looking at a list of deaths of recent years today, I found myself being more broken up about the death of Jerry Casale from DEVO a few yrs ago which i wasn`t aware of. Jerry had a big impact on me. He, with Mark, were the creative innovators for me, not Prince.
I`d say this death train has just started rolling.
Prince dead at 57 surely not??

I didn`t know him personally. I only know his arts, personally. They will live forever. Thanks for that and: "welcome back!"

Oops! Your right. I didn`t know about Bob`s death and I got mixed up being the brothers look somewhat alike, and wearing that hat, the pix I saw looked more like Jerry.Karma_tba wrote:I think Jerry would be upset to hear of his "death"....... it was Jerry's brother Bob who died recently. I was justified in how I compared Prince and Jerry above.
Thanks for straightening me out.

Why is that? Where is this info coming from?xNiMiNx wrote:90% of all opiate prescriptions in the world are in the united states of america.
Edit - In my experience here in Philadelphia, my doctor recently refused to give me a low strength anxiety med called lorazepam. He made me see a psychiatrist in order to get that med.
He also stopped my prescription for ibuprofen for chronic neck pain because of possible kidney damage in future years.
My point here is that my experience shows excessive caution from doctors.

That list would seem to be a measure of the incidence of opiate use - be it medicine by prescription or use of opium or derivatives for "recreational" purposes. It really says nothing about how many scripts for oxycontin or percoset are being written for arthritis and cancer sufferers etc.

Plenty of articles when you search Google for "90% of all opiate prescriptions in the world are in the united states of america" ... Appears the source of many of those articles is this testimony to the US Senate by the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians:annode wrote:Why is that? Where is this info coming from?xNiMiNx wrote:90% of all opiate prescriptions in the world are in the united states of america.

The number is slightly lower but in the ball park, considering the scale.
TESTIMONY TO THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE, SUBCOMMITTEE ON
CRIME AND TERRORISM
RESPONDING TO THE PRESCRIPTION DRUG EPIDEMIC: STRATEGIES FOR REDUCING
ABUSE, MISUSE, DIVERSION, AND FRAUD
May 24, 2011
...
After the liberalization of laws governing opioid prescribing for the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain by state medical boards in the late 1990s, and with the introduction of new
pain management standards for inpatient and outpatient medical care implemented by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) in 2000, many physicians and organizations began advocating for increased usage of opioids in the treatment of chronic pain. Opioids, in general, and the most potent forms of opioids including Schedule II drugs, in particular, have dramatically increased.
...
The treatment of chronic pain, therapeutic opioid use and abuse, and the nonmedical use of prescription drugs have been topics of intense focus and debate. Due in some measure to the campaign of alleged undertreatment of pain, Americans, constituting only 4.6% of the world’s population, have been consuming 80% of the global opioid supply, and 99% of the global hydrocodone supply, as well as two-thirds of the world’s illegal drugs.
...
Average sales of opioids per person have increased from 74 milligrams in 1997 to 369 milligrams in 2007, a 402% increase. It is no surprise then that surveys of nonprescription drug abuse, emergency department visits for prescription controlled drugs, unintentional deaths due to prescription controlled substances, therapeutic use of opioids, and opioid abuse have been steadily rising.
About the prescription epidemic:
http://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/epidemic/
https://www.drugabuse.gov/related-topic ... in-america
"78 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose."

I think ras.s answered the question where its (90%) coming from.annode wrote:Why is that? Where is this info coming from?xNiMiNx wrote:90% of all opiate prescriptions in the world are in the united states of america.

Your doctor is the minority, the ones who believed the oath they took. 'Doctor shopping' is a term for a reason.
As to why? Its big business. Follow the money. If youd like to see what happens after theyve created an addict and cut off the supply, search the net for 'heroin epidemic soccer moms'.
Where do you go when you hit rock bottom? How about a private for-profit prison.
Weed isnt the gateway drug, its prescriptions. They are the new dealer on the block. Its better than messy caskets filled with heroin flying back from vietnam. Youll never see a crack commercial on tv, but watch 1-2 hours of tv and tell me how many prescription drug commercials you see.
Gotta love the stupid terms they come up with. One of my favorites is 'medical misadventure'.
See? We are on an adventure and we didnt even know it.
RIP Prince.

annode's dr is right, as someone who takes anxiety meds I can tell you my GP (general practitioner) would not prescribe them for me and my psychiatrist does. My psychiatrist would not be able to prescribe pain killers either even though he is a medical doctor, he would send me to my GP or a specialist depending on what they are for. His (annodes dr) stopping the the ibuprofen was his call to make as that is his area of practice. I think that annode's doctor should be able to prescribe him what he needs but then the psychiatrist wouldn't get his slice of the pie now would he? It's the American way, keep driving up the costs and keep telling us it's for our own goodxNiMiNx wrote:I think ras.s answered the question where its (90%) coming from.annode wrote:Why is that? The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
