Superwave synths will not install on my Receptor 1 Rev C

Hi people, I have recently bought a second Receptor to use for synths only. It is a Receptor Ver 1, Rev C with Komplete Inside. Other than the bundled synths that are part of NI Komplete there are no other plugins on this unit. I have tried to refresh the plugins but it brings no new synths back. What I really want to do is load the Superwave synths onto this, but I am having no luck at all!
I have managed to install Z3ta+ and a handful of free VSTs. But when I try and drop the Superwave synth dll files in the unsupported plugins folder and install them, the Receptor hangs and needs to be restarted. The Receptor sees them when they are added to the unsupported folder, but because it hangs a soon as you try to install them, no FAILED notice appears on the Setup page of the GUI. I then have to manually remove them from the unsupported plugins folder. Also, because they never actually install (whether successfully or failed) there is no record in the Reports/System log to suggest what has gone wrong.
This method is exactly the same as I used to install the same synths on my other Receptor (Receptor 1 upgraded to a 2+ Pro Max) and I had no trouble installing them on that! Incidentally, I have also attempted to install the Free Superwave P8 synth, which I know should work on an older Receptor!
Can anyone help me here, as I really want those Superwave synths (I have paid for them, after all!) on my new Receptor! Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan,
I've had success installing most of my Superwave synths on a 2+ Pro Max, so I know they install/work there. From what I recall, I had these working on a Rev 1, before I upgraded the Receptors.
First thing I typically do is check the System Log and Install log (in the Reports folder), as you have.
Another thing to try is to simply 'run' the installer on your Receptor (eg. put the .exe into your "Drop Installers Here" folder, and execute that).
If you can't run the installer on a Receptor (and have access to a PC) - check the installers (from an installer log on a PC install) to make sure that the installer isn't trying to load a font or dll into your system that you don't have.
Hope one of these things works for you.
Regards,
Kevin L

Hi Kevin,
I tried the 'Drop Installers Here' route previously, but have no luck with that.
I have since copied loads of .dll files from my pc system folder into the Receptor system folder to see if that would load any missing .dll's that the Superwave synth .dll's are looking for. This hasn't worked, but it has altered how my Receptor reacts to me dropping ultimate.dll (one of the Superwave synths) into the unsupported plugins folder. Previously, doing that would instantly make my Receptor hang as soon as I clicked install from the setup GUI. However, now the Receptor doesn't hang, but it instantly shows on the setup screen that the install failed.
I have then gone into the reports/system log and find the following log relating to the attempted install:
Jan 1 22:23:36 Receptor-1 rm-host: ../win32/LoadVst.cpp::LoadWindowsVst[131]: todo - translate win error 126, path '/c/Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins/Ultimate.dll'
I have no idea how to interpret this! but have noticed that the date is showing as Jan 1! I would usually look at the last entry in the log to locate this, but thought I should do a 'find' search for the word ultimate. Low and behold, here is the result. As I never thought to do a find search last time I tried this, I have no idea whether there was anything added to the log before. Any idea what this log is saying about my attempted install of Ultimate? Could the fact that the date is clearly not correct be causing an issue? Would replacing the system battery make a difference?
Cheers. Dan

To anyone else who might be able to help me here!
Not only are the Superwave synths not installing on my Receptor 1 Rev C, but after spending an afternoon trying to install loads of free VST synths onto it with very little success, I suspect the problem is deeper!
Basically I'm struggling to get any synth plugins onto my Receptor. I've installed every single one I've tried on my other Receptor (1 Rev C upgraded to 2+ Pro Max) and even had some of these running on the inferior, infamously and notoriously difficult to use VFX V-Machine VST player!!!
I can't install the free Superwave P8, Novation V-Station, SxMJune (Or any of the other Elektrostudio free VSTs), Tal-U-N0-62, Kx-PolyM, and several others. When I can successfully run the Superwave P8 on the V-Machine and not my Receptor, that tells me something is going wrong. The fact that I am not going to get any support from MUSE due to their collapse is very frustrating.
Basically I am dropping all the said VST synth .dll files into the unsupported plugins folder. The Receptor can tell when I've done this and shows it on the setup screen of the GUI, but as soon as I press the install button one of 3 things happen:
1, it installs (only had success with 7 synths so far)
2, it shows the egg timer and hangs. I have to restart and it shows as failed on my computer screen
3, it instantly shows as failed on the setup GUI.
Where am I going wrong? I know these machines, as I've had my other unit for a while now and have only had a handful of failed installs. I am doing exactly the same procedure on this Receptor 1 Rev C as I did on the other unit, so I know I'm not doing things wrong! The one I'm trying to stuff full of synths is a second user unit with Komplete 5 inside. However, none of the usual pre-loaded synths are there, only the NI Komplete set. I have no idea whether the previous owner has done anything to it, as they claimed they bought it and never used it as it was too complicated.
I have checked reports/system logs and it does not show entries in chronological order and in fact states the date is Jan (no year given), which leads me to think the system battery inside the Receptor needs replacing???? Could that cause the issues I'm having? I actually went and copied every .dll file from my pc's system folder to the Receptor's system folder to eliminate missing .dlls as a possible problem, but still no luck. (don't worry, I logged the state of the system folder on the Receptor before I attempted this, so I can go in and return it back to its original state.)
Please help me out here fellow Muse Receptor users!!!

I've had all the Superwave stuff working on my Receptor 1 Rev B without any issues.
Each DLL in it's own subfolder under unsupported.
Date could be an issue - suggest changing that.
Assuming you're on the latest OS for your hardware version?
There's a handy tool that you can invoke just to test the hardware/software on the unit - boot the unit while holding the setup button for a while.. Whilst I don't have a Receptor in front of me to confirm, it should come up with something like expert mode - then let go of the setup button.
In there there's something like run full test. let that go through, may take a while.
This does help fix anything glitchy and definitely worth a try, as you mentioned isn't Superwave specific, but nothing wants to install..
Perhaps worth also once you've done that to try a pretty vanilla VST, I suggest VB3 from GSI:
http://www.genuinesoundware.com/?a=showproduct&b=24
From what I can tell it has no other dependencies on DLL's etc and besides that it's good value if you get it to work and think it's something you'd use!
*disclaimer - I have no affiliation with GSI but think their stuff beats a lot of more expensive offerings

Hi emcee, thanks very much for the response. I am at work at the minute, so can't check what you suggest until later this evening.
My Receptor has created subfolders for a couple of the successfully loaded plugins, but others are simply the .dll file and other created files within the unsupported folder. (This is the same on my other Receptor)
Setting the date remains elusive! How do I do that? I assume it may require a battery change?
I have installed the latest version of the OS on my Receptor. (Ver 1.7.20080616), so hopefully that isn't to blame.
I shall definitely try and invoke that expert mode you suggest.
I shall feedback later. Cheers.

Cool. Let us know how you go. I can vouch 100% that the superwave synths work fine on a r1 - didn't get the drum machine ones going though.
Time - best to hook the unit up to a monitor and keyboard and hit Del or F10, then it's a normal PC bios. It shouldn't have a bios password but I have that jotted down somewhere, think it's iammuse or museum, then save the settings. New battery is a big standard cr2032 -$2 most places and easy to replace. Keep me posted

Hi emcee,
Right, here's the result of my Receptor fix tests!
I tried to run the expert mode you mentioned: Held the Setup button and booted the Receptor, but nothing happened until the screen went blank! It remained blank and the unit froze and I needed to to pull the plug just to restart it! It took a while to reboot as it did a 'refresh plugins' routine. I tried the same procedure 2 more times with the same result, only the refresh plugins bit didn't happen, it just rebooted.
I got into the system and set the date (which was Jan 18 2016?) so that is sorted and reports/system log results are now in chronological order.
I wondered if, by chance, something had been sorted by doing the above so I attempted to install the Ultimate.dll file using the unsupported plugins folder drop. Receptor picks this up as usual, then the plugin install failed, as usual! Like you, I had all Superwave synths running but non of the drum machines would work. Curiously, my Superwave synths were bought as the Ultimate bundle. This only requires one licence key code to unlock the lot and I have always applied this by running the Ultimate synth. All other synths in the bundle are then subsequently unlocked too. This is the approach I'm sure I took when installing these on my other Receptor: drop all individual .dll files into unsupported plugins folder, install, then load Ultimate on a mixer channel then unlock using the licence key code. All remaining synths were then unlocked and ready to use. I have thus far only dropped the single Ultimate.dll file into unsupported plugins. Perhaps I should try dropping all 6 .dll files, then try installing??? Can you remember how you did it?
Finally, I tried installing VB3, but this too failed immediately.
Help!!!

Dropping all 6 makes no difference. What happens is different though. Receptor sees I have dropped 6 plugins ready to install; I click install and the Receptor restarts. Once restarted the install button on the setup screen shows only 5 plugins ready to install. This process repeats for all 6 and the Receptor restarts immediately the install button is pressed. Once all are installed the Receptor shows no FAILED installs. I switch to the mix view and see if they are available to load on channels, but there are none. I check the view on the pc, and low and behold, all 6 have FAILED!!!!

Hello
It sounds to me like the receptors system files are messed up.Normaly Muse would be able to supply you with a fresh drive at a cost ,unfortunatly it seems that they are no longer in bussiness .Do you have a copy (clone) of the original disk.?
if you dont all is not lost !you can clone an image of your other receptor and transfer it onto the unit you are having problems with.To do this you can use Unetbootin or a disk cloner (read posts)clone your pro max drive onto a sutable drive and then transfer that drive to the receptor that is not working this will give you 2 identical systems.except for the hardware of course .It sounds strange but it does work i have done it myself on 3 units
The only thing you have to watch is if you have the rack mode upgrade installed on any of the units. You will need to re register it on the cloned unit.If its not installed then no probs.Mixer mode will work fine.Allso the the target drive that you clone to will have to be the same size or larger than the source drive. If your not into messing about with cloning etc get a tech to do it.Oh and you will have to re register some of the plugins on the cloned unit but only the ones that recognize new hardware .I have learned through past mistakes to keep at least 2 copys of all my drives .Good luck !
Regards Andy

I'm starting to go with Andy - the fact VB3 failed as well means it's not plugin specific but something in the OS is hosed. It normally doesn't make a difference but are you installing using the front panel button to install or the gui?
I have a copy of my old R1 that I could make a copy of and send, is your drive the original 160gb?
Oh - that's another thing to check - there's ample space on the drive available?
I'll see if I can find an old 160gb and can discuss that as an option, in the meantime perhaps attach the system log, may provide some clues?
Cheers
Mark

I'm not quite 100% sure that OS 1.7 has the support tools, and unfortunately my Receptor 1 is now with a friend an hours drive from me - but if you do hold the setup button then power on, or alternatively bout the receptor, hold setup and triple click the power button to reset you should sees screen per image attached.
I also found my backup 160gb of my R1 from 2012 - so at worst can mail you a copy, unless you have great internet and download a 160gb image file and have the patience/skills to copy that to a drive (not the current one!).. ?

Hi everyone, thanks for the support your are all offering.
andym63, unfortunately, based on the requirements for the drive cloning procedure ('the target drive that you clone to will have to be the same size or larger than the source drive') My Receptor 2+ Pro Max has a 2TB HD whereas the Receptor 1 Rev C only has the 160GB drive! The Receptor 2 also has the later OS that isn't compatible with earlier versions.
Now to emcee, your offer of getting your 160GB backup to me sounds most appealing. I don't want to lose the NI Komplete plugins though, does your backup have those? This is one sorry state to be in!
emcee, I tried the support tools procedure again, but my Receptor still goes to a completely blank screen and freezes every time!
Get back to me about ways of me getting that backup in this direction. My internet isn't that good, so downloading that much data would take a loooooong time!
Cheers for all the help.

Hmm - I'm drawing up a blank for what else you could try.
I just reinstalled my Superwave synths today (on a R2 +), and I literally copied over the dirs with .dlls from a different machine, then ran 'refresh plugins' from the setup tab. I installed both 'ultimate' and 'megapack' vstis. All of these came up as expected, I simply needed to enter registration codes.
It is possible that there are differences in windows dlls, graphics libs, etc - any of which that could cause troubles on installation on the older OS.
The only other thing that I can think of is that I might have had older versions of the SuperWave synths - when I had them running on an R1. Maybe you can see if you can get previous versions of the synths from Superwave, and see if those install.
Sorry this isn't 'just working' for you.

good call Kevin - the older OS may not like the updated versions of the Superwave stuff, so I could send the working dll's from my R1 zipped and try that - doesn't explain VB3 not working which the latest version works on both the R1 and my R2+, so I'm thinking it's something deeper than just Superwave.
The good news is I've found an old 160gb HDD at work that's been sitting idle and won't be reused, so I can clone my backup onto that - so you'd just need to fix me up for postage. I'll PM you the list of stuff on it, hopefully have most of the stuff you need, if not then I guess the pain of having to reinstall a few is a far lesser evil than not being able to install anything full stop
