Hi folks,
here's the thing: According to the statistics less than 10% of you use Sliders editor mode, and most of you use Buttons. In the recent update we found out, that by mixing knobs and buttons the GUI can be most compact and can avoid big sets of "similar" looking controls, hence improving clarity and workflow.
The idea is to remove the option completely for V10. There are several advantages:
- It would let us design more optimal GUIs consisting of knobs, buttons and sliders, and potentially other controls.
- It would significantly speed up the development, since currently each plugin effectively exists in 6 different GUI versions and about a dozen styles.
The only disadvantage would be that you'd loose the ability to choose a single GUI mode. By this poll we want to check if there would be a relevant opposition to this idea. Please make a choice here:

Hehe, seems like I am one of the 10% then. Nevertheless: I voted yes to remove it, if it really improves the development. Am I correct that only "button" (or "button + knobs"?) will stay?

I'm a button guy but wasn't sure when I voted if I was button or slider (you guys made me question myself!). Either way, I figured I'd vote for improving development, I can adapt to whatever and I'd happily do it if it makes Melda's job easier.

What statistics?
Mostly sliders here too, followed by knobs then buttons (56%, 42%, 3%)
I find that the problem with buttons is that they do not use the Highlights colour (much?) in many (some?) of the Styles, so are not so easy to spot in the GUIs.
I'd like to see a few mock-ups before voting.

Its very hard to know for sure what we are voting for without pictures showing us the options. I personally would re-do the voting with actual pictures showing how the new GUI would look vs the current system. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to try it out and see how it goes, but at the very least pictures are necessary when voting on an GUI redesign, no? But I'm always for an "optimized GUI" over "GUI options."

I agree completely - let's see some pictures so we know exactly what we vote about..!LGK_Dude wrote:Its very hard to know for sure what we are voting for without pictures showing us the options. As i see it, sliders has much of the same function as buttons, in being some sort of "bar" which one can draw in any direction in one axis?
Only differences is, that in buttons, the values is displayed within the bar as well as a larger bar?
I use button - easy to get at quick visual on the relative size (I thought i was using sliders - but actually i am using buttons). Sliders have no extra value for me.. And.... Where you saying version 10? Interesting

I use knobs in all plugs, sliders don't work for me, but if there are new and better solutions, go ahead.

Well I better vote then.
For me sliders can be dropped, without hessitation - I prefer the value buttons by a large margin, as they for me give the clearest view and simply look best when browsing through the styles. I like Melda plugins are "proudly digital", those "fake 3D knobs" really points in the wrong direction. A better design would help I guess, but the value buttons would still be hard to beat.
Please do not make it Knobs only

You mean like in your homepage for example with the shown unison or morph gui?
Yep that looks good although, sometimes -tho very seldom- sliders can be visibly better (depending on colors/design). In Multiband ringmodulator, mmphaser and so on I found them useful.
Maybe, if you let us choose only a few of the buttons, it'd be a nice compromise, while
most are predifined by you. (just an idea).
If not...then I'm just voting yes in your poll.

Optimal GUI design using a mixture of elements sounds good.

Another request here for mock-ups. For me, sliders are by far more natural to use when setting MP ranges ... but then maybe that's just because it's what I'm used to.
I frankly don't understand the buttons thing. Sliders and knobs can be interchangeable because they deal with contiguous ranges of values. Where do buttons fit into this? Again, maybe a few example mock-ups would clear things up so that we could make far more informed decisions. I suspect that in this case, our votes are fairly important.
