Nomad Factory prices have been re-evaluated

I'm also very tempted by at least a couple of plugins. But I forced myself not to buy anything until there's no official statement from NF/Plugivery about the future of those plugins. The download page on the NF website isn't really encouraging as someone already stated. Actually I can't help myself, but in some regards I just dislike the company's way of communication/marketing. It's sometimes unpredictable.

Busdriver is a prime example: First, they say it will be free for a limited time only. Fine. Then, after one or two months, they say that some crackers made massive fake orders, "bought" dozens of licenses for free, probably to sell them on after the free period for the plugin would be over (that alone says something about their e-commerce/website security/structure if you ask me...). So they say that Busdriver would from then on be "donationware" with an optional price one could pay or not. Now, again one or two months later, Busdriver is apparently not so donation ware anymore. Instead it is on sale for the "total no-brainer price of $ 5" (which is a good deal, no doubt about it). Still, this back and forth, making statements that would be totally obsolete the other day and apparently thinking that the customers won't notice all this and might indeed think they made a snatch with Busdriver - this is all very, very odd to say at least.

I'm really curious where this will end - though I would hope they kept all or maybe all NF plugins and promise ongoing support for them.

Numanoid, the one thing I don't see included in this sale that is potentially worthwhile is the BBE Sound Sonic Sweet Suite. I must admit I'm curious about their $4.99 Opto Compressor, however. Perhaps it's one of those really old 32bit plugin conversions?

I believe HorNet, Klanghelm, SKNote, and DDMF offer better plugins at prices that rival some of these sale prices. Boz, DMG, and 112dB are slightly more pricey, but also have excellent products, similar to FabFilter. PluginAlliance's Opto / FET Compressor / Limiter, Millennia TCL-2, is now $89.

MAGMA seems superfluous given users can save Channel Strips in both Logic & Cubase, and Racks in Ableton & Bitwig.

It makes sense if you use multiple hosts and want the same plugin chains easily accessible in each.

I want Cosmos and Echoes, therefore might aswell shoot for the bundle... but this is such a tricky investment. Feels like a firesale. If they go belly-up tomorrow, the plugins may never get crucial updates again.

The prices are all still full price on their website by the way. What's going on exactly?

That's something I definitely couldn't work out - Where possible I want to buy directly from the author to give them the most support. But when there's such a difference in price like this I'll obviously buy through the reseller !

MAGMA seems superfluous given users can save Channel Strips in both Logic & Cubase, and Racks in Ableton & Bitwig.

Plus it's various bundled effects, internal routing options and modulation system

I can ease your mind in this regard, mate. Nomad Factory was acquired by Plugivery, which is also the owner of the Dontcrack store. So if you buy the plugins there you actually ARE giving the developer(s) the best support possible

But I think Overall P&M sounds better... Magma, for the most part of it, is rather standard digital bread&butter stuff imo - my guess would be that Bernie coded a bigger number of the P&M effects than the Magma ones...

love Big Tick, but wouldn't expect him to code an especially well sounding analog-emu distortion or phaser...

of course I have no idea who coded what, but all I can say is that a lot of the Magma-modules don't have that nice Nomad sound...

I just downloaded Magma to try it out. It works smooth (in Live 9.1 64bit / Win7 64bit) as long as I use the internal modules but if I load 3rd party plugins in the VST chainer, after a little while, it crashes Ableton. Also, some of the plugins I tried to load in the VST chainer don't behave well: the knobs/sliders have a very jerky motion.

I bought Analog Trackbox years ago during a "no-brainer" sale for about what it's on sale for now. Over the years I've accumulated most of the Nomad Factory products and Analog Trackbox is by far the most used. It's a great compressor that colors the signal in a nice vintage-type saturation. Great presets to get you started.
