Ah right, the different pitch modes in sampler introduced sometime after I last used it, too... I'll have to play around with the latest version for my next track. :) Only thing is, I always get frustrated when I hit some task that I think Bitwig did better... I need to be more proficient in it, though, so I guess I'll work through it. If for no other reason, it has significantly better sounding pitch shifting and hence offers a means to get a better end result (without bouncing in/out of a different DAW to time/pitch stretch)...

Never used Bitwig, so I don't know much about it.
The audio clips have these modes now: Beat/Tones/Texture/Re-Pitch/Complex/Complex Pro
They have little corrections, each different, like e.g. Texture (which is kind of an old akai type of pitch correction) where you have a grain size parameter. It depends on what you are looking for in pitch correction. Effect or clean vocal corrections. Last time I did something with clean vocals I used Logic X, which does a nice job, e.g. has formant corrections, different modes and so on. But its all there in Ableton as well, sometimes as plugin. In general my go to is usually Kontakt. And I am in love with the TAL - Sampler, if you are after 90ties rave type of vocals ;)

Just uploaded my entry for this month. As a big fan of U-he synths, I really enjoyed using Podolski. It has just enough power to get the job done, with a nice GUI and the ability to deliver some tasty tones! Always a fan of the U-he preset system which is the best in the biz and the Zebra style arp is a damn nice touch 8)

DAW: Reaper 4
24 x Podolski instances
Native fx: ReaEQ, JS distortion
3rd party fx: Sanford Reverb and a dab of Ferric TDS on the drum buss
The inbuilt Podolski delay and chorus did the job quite nicely.

No, you must use Podolski for all sounds including drums.

So I'm thinking of entering this for this month, however I would REALLY like to win a prize. I have 2 tracks started... 1 more on the EDM/Funk/disco vibe (not really my forte,but I can do it), the other on the more Portishead/trip-hop vibe (completely up my alley!). Of course whatever I bring to the song will be the ultimate deciding factor, but which style should I contribute that those who are judging like to hear? I ask this because after going participating in a couple of the OSCs & listening to most of them EDM & Ambient seems to be the top winning genres more than not.

I'd go for what you like, whether trip-hop or otherwise. What you bring to the track will be the deciding factor, as you said. Good sounds, melody, and mixing are key. I think you might have a better chance with a non-EDM style track, but it's really a crapshoot, from my experience.

Paint them by hand! ... oh, wait, that's pretty much just Jasinski who does that. For the rest, I suspect it's images from all over the 'net, which are probably used without permission. :?: I usually look for images that are CC licensed in some way and include a link to the source in the PNG comment (but I think SC strips the comments out when it processes them, anyway). I'll avoid anything that explicitly states it is copyright and cannot be used without permission... some things on Deviant Art are that way. Some sites also allow a search that filters based on allowed CC or other usage.

Some ideas to get there:

#1 - Put extra time into it
#2 - Post your progress here a lot, and ask what sucks about it, and what can be improved, or suggestions (be mentally prepared for that kind of criticism with open mind).
#3 - Make the track memorable. Preferably add a nice melodic factor, and lots of cool parts
#4 - Good percussion helps, but not always.
#5 - Use 2 or 3 reference tracks of good quality, comparable to your style, and try and compare the mixing to yours (using spectral analysis, amplitude analysis, and your ears). Also compare sounds, and vibe.
#6 - Instead of posting a 5 minute prototype... try working on 30 seconds to 1 minute and make it sound amazing (maybe it would be like the chorus of your song) and polished. Then you can just stretch it out, add more parts, automation and you've got your tune.

Check out OSC59 or OSC56 to see if EDM wins :D
