1. start new project
2. make and record a few midi instrument tracks. (no problem thus far)
3. add an audio track - finds the mic ok, record armed ok, no sound or levels
4. go to modular, route the mic out to the 'rack recorder' in... now monitors the sound, and shows audio level meter on the rack meter
5. press record... seems t
Is this step 2 important for repeating the problem?
If step 2 is omitted then does the problem still occur?

I haven't got a screen video, but I checked some more and it is getting
a little strange.
If I open a new song everything works as expected. And I do exactly the
same.
Furthermore I can open a template called - START 1 - and everything
works, but if I open my latest template called - START 3 - it doesn't work.
And I do exactly the same everytime.
Sound C loud
Band C amp
Clicks and pops is all I get

Please check whether there is an Audio/Recordings sub-folder in the folder containing START 3
It should be created automatically if it doesn't exist.
Is that Audio/Recordings sub-folder there?

No, there is no sub-folder.

But it is created when doing your first recording, right?
At least, if the project has not yet been saved, in the User sub-folder thus MuLab folder/User/Audio/Recordings
Right?
I don't understand, everything is working fine here even when i delete such existing sub-folders, they're auto created as expected.

Same here,all working fine.
I did all sorts of tests trying to find any kind of problem, also followed all the steps previously reported but here works all properly, record many MIDI tracks, audio track from mic/synth and also from rewire No problem with the audio recording ,everything works and until now never encountered any problem.

I saved my template -START 3- and tried to record, but with no luck.
MuLab doesn't create the sub-folders.

You haven't installed to "C:\Program Files" have you? This is explicitly stated as a bad idea - because MuLab writes to the install location and Windows bans writing to "C:\Program Files".

There was a bug in previous M7 versions that indeed the Audio/Recordings sub-folder was not auto created if it doesn't exist. But that bug has been fixed in M7.0.34. So please double check that you're using the latest version. And indeed please check what pljones says too as MuLab can't create sub-folders in Window's protected folders.

If the problem is still there please do this:

MULAB menu -> Help -> Start Logging
Repeat the problem
MULAB menu -> Help -> StopLogging
Email me the most recent Log-YYYMMDD-HHMMSS.txt file in your MuLab folder.

Thanks.

Log file sent.

P.S
I am using the latest MuLab version 7.0.36 and haven't installed
in the programs folder.

Well the log file reveals that this ie related to a global project switch "Record Audio On/Off" being switched off. In fact that's a legacy switch from older versions which is not really used anymore, and it's switched on by default, but i assume it's switched off in your template project. I could explain how to switch it on again (shortcut -> Toggle Recording Audio), but i'll simply remove that switch as it has become irrelevant in M7. I wonder whether this also explains what jasonpenrose encounters as he starts from a New project and the M7 New project template definitely has that switch on.

I tried your shortcut solution and indeed it was the "problem".
Now it works :)
