I owned an Oddyssy back in the 80s. Is this an improvement over the original because quite honestly it wasn't my favorite synth and sold it not long after.

Well, not poly AT of course, but it would at least work for regular aftertouch.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I don't know of any midi transformer that can send different midi signals to different voices. So no there is no way to fake polyphonic aftertouch.EvilDragon wrote:Well, a simple MIDI transformer plugin before Oddity loaded takes care of that. Quite easy to convert aftertouch to any CC one wishes.

What did you just throw at me? HEX? What year is this again? I thought there was supposed to be advantages to this digital ish. Can we all get on the same page and standardize in 2016 please? Before I die?zerocrossing wrote:It does not work like that.Dasheesh wrote:Wait, don't answer that. I'm not in the mood to get into aurgumentative conjecture. Personally, If I wasn't so lazy right now, I would look up what controller number my midi keyboard is using for poly/aftertouch and assign it to a parameter. Maybe it doesn't work that way though. I'm too tired to care right now, just trying to help.

Midi, sometime is lovely, sometimes it's like chernobyl's cloud is back and you can't eat ice cream.

It's true, though. Polyphonic and channel aftertouch are a different MIDI message types, they do not fall under CCs. What your MIDI controller is doing is remapping them to CCs, which is a different thing altogether.

The main differences would be the modulation system, the inclusion of all 3 filters from the different versions, and polyphony.wagtunes wrote:I owned an Oddyssy back in the 80s. Is this an improvement over the original because quite honestly it wasn't my favorite synth and sold it not long after.
You won't like the GUI - it's cramped and not resizable. I would guess that if you didn't like it the first time round you won't like it now ??
I like the sound a lot myself, and have learnt to live with the GUI. It's incredibly good on CPU.

What size rez are you on?lnikj wrote:The main differences would be the modulation system, the inclusion of all 3 filters from the different versions, and polyphony.wagtunes wrote:I owned an Oddyssy back in the 80s. I'm on 2K... is the "cramped-ness an issue of layout, size of UI or both?
I won't have a chance to download the demo for a little bit. I've been wanting Oddity since version 1, but always get stuck at the idea of just getting DIVA instead. This sale just complicates things.

Various rezs. I think the GUI is about 1000 * 650 px. It is very busy.elxsound wrote:What size rez are you on?lnikj wrote:The main differences would be the modulation system, the inclusion of all 3 filters from the different versions, and polyphony.wagtunes wrote:I owned an Oddyssy back in the 80s. Seriously tempted at the current sale price, have been demoing it and it does sound wicked but yeah agree about the GUI being a bit cramped.

The filters are amazing, force has some of the best digital filters IMO. It sounds the part, and I love to dick around on it. I do think it needs a face lift though. Everybody brings up good points.

Tempted by this as well, it's probably the only decent sale we'll see on this for some time too, so it's worth getting in if you want it...

I think monitor resolution is the issue, it's not too bad at 1920x1080 but i like a nice clear and GUI like Monark, don't like to be struggling to find a parameter.
Oddity is more busy by nature of the original hardware but it could be optimised to run on the existing tech but Imposcar 2 took a while to get an update so maybe Oddity 2 will eventually...
