When you put it that way You make it look like a crappy upgrade. Nevertheless, It is not that bad for Reason only users. Actually it is the best upgrade of their life. I'm glad I have studio one though the company never charged too much for little.

That was my gut reaction too- however I think there are some things in here that may seem small or subtle until you dig in. It looks like some audio->midi functionality that may prove powerful as well. I like the chord progression/scale plugin. While Im good enough and figuring out scales and chords, and other hosts have similar functionality, I do like the speed at which chords can be figured out. One thing I do wish for is the powerful way that FL studio handles samples/snapping/algorithm for audio clips. Until FL is stable on mac, I will use reason or logic...

Almost 2 years silent and this is what they came up with? A little disappointing to be honest... But in fairness nothing else I have (and I have a lot. Too much in fact) gives me the same degree of creativity and "happy accidents" that Reason does... I just hoped for an updated UI and oversampling...

These are useful functions and devices, no doubt, but the problem arises (as I see it) when you compare the features that Propellerhead includes in each full version upgrade versus those that other DAW developers include for free as interim updates. For example, Cockos just included a full notation editor as an update to Reaper 5, at no additional cost; in fact, a brand new license of Reaper costs less than half of the upgrade price for Reason. I own Reason 7, and like it a lot, but it seems to me there is no denying that Propellerhead offers existing users much less for their upgrade money than other developers.

Precisely.

I think people are knocking this upgrade without thinking about what it brings, the pitch edit and bounce in place are both huge things. That other DAWs have them doesn't make their inclusion in Reason any less exiting for Reason users, they were extremely exciting when they came to other DAWs.

Overall, I am not impressed with the v9 upgrade and will continue to stay on v7. At the given rate of development, I will probably upgrade at v12. With that said, the v9 upgrade will probably look more favorable to users solely committed to the Reason platform, which is understandable.

Fortunately, I rarely use Reason these days, due to the fact that Studio One 3, Samplitude Pro X2 and Digital Performer 9 are better options for my production requirements.

The "bounce-in-place" features is the primary upgrade that captured my interest. However, I am unsure if it works similar to "track freeze", which also disables the all of the devices within the audio chain. The "pitch correction" is a welcomed addition, also. However, those two items, by themselves, are not going to get me to open my wallet.

I am honestly surprised that PDC was not included in v9.

Have to agree... Some of the previous updates included new synths which was something to get excited about. I think their new business model of selling Rack Extensions might discourage that now... What is essentially MIDI sequencing features isn't too exciting for me...

Comparing any DAW to Reaper in terms of cost is akin to comparing any DAWs built in FX and instruments to Logics. In both cases the developer does not rely on income from the DAW to survive or even make much of a profit. Don't get me wrong Logic and Reaper are great deals, but the reasons they are great deals has nothing to do with them doing anything like fair competing in the market.

Even on that line Reason is traditionally $129 to upgrade compared to roughly $200 for most DAWs (including Logic). Not a small price but unless you're making $10 an hour not that much.

100% agree.

As a closed platform, it is my belief that Reason should offer more to users, instead of less than other DAWs within its price range.

Funny how Reaper gets compared to Reason, especially when you compare the discounted price with Reason. Reaper comes with no content at all, Reason comes with loads of content, this version alone features 1000+ more presets. And people who do make money with Reaper need to buy the commercial license for $225, not $60. Also, the update, and license policy is completely different. With Reaper, you get updates for 2 versions, not for 1 as with Reason. BUT, with Reason, you basically can update from version 1, which hardly had any features compared to the latest version, for 129 €, which is a total bargain, as, basically, you get a completely new program, and loads of new content with it.

Apples vs. oranges, completely. But, hey, "have you tried Reaper?" :P

Lol, I remember in 2012 the CEO of the Props spoke of an 'old concept' when it comes to VSTs.
Well, I bet the odds you sell a VST vs a RE are >1000:1. Happy now? :hihi:

I just feel that they could just as well have released Chorder/Arp and Pitch Edit as Rack Extensions and then users could decide to buy them or not to buy them, based on what music they make.

Now every users that want to stay updated with latest version of Reason, need to get them.

Are you sure about that? Many companies think/thought it's a good idea to develop RE's.
