From what I can see from rooting around in folders is that presets were previously stored as monolithic banks, whereas they are now stored individually.

All a preset is is a bunch of values, which is why many devs store them as human readable plain text or XML files. In both cases here they are in an encrypted/compressed format.

If it was a straight conversion, one would imagine it is a case of just decompressing, running a conversion script, and recompressing. A few hours work to package up and release a script to do that.

Clearly it is not though, if it will take weeks or months. So, this might indicate some DSP changes in older plugins? Hopefully.
It should not require an external script to convert. Banks (ideally) should have a stamp identifying the version which saved them, so the new plugins should be able to recognise old banks and translate them internally. If they are not stamped in any way, there should at least be an "import" option within the instrument.

I am also wondering whether that also means that one cannot replace the versions in an existing project. I assume if it does cannot understand the old preset format, it will also not recognize automation data.

For the moment, the legacy factory & user presets won't be compatible with the new plugins versions.

But we are currently developing a preset converter in order to make your patches from the legacy versions compatible with the new plugins.

This app should be available in the forthcoming weeks/months.

Really - weeks or even months :o

Guess I'll wait weeks or even months before upgrading then .... no point in having a new version that won't read my (many!) presets. This should be stated clearly on the website - this is a showstopper (for me and many others I would guess) :(

Really looks like they released a half-baked version. Some of the GUI's do not look refined, patch compatibility is not (yet?) given. And for what it is, it seems a bit expensive.

I need to demo the new plugins more to see whether it is worth the $199 to upgrade completely.
$99 for the new GUI's alone is clearly too much. But I am afraid that without upgrade, there are no chances to get some of the still outstanding issues fixed.

I don't see your point. You are able to keep the old versions running together with the new versions. Existing projects can't even open the new versions because they are identified differently. So, you have the old versions to play the old patches. By holding on to upgrade, you will not be able to use the new plug-ins (like the Synclavier V, which, alone, would justify the upgrade, IMO), and that just because you cannot convert immediately your patches, which you can still play using the old versions, which you have to keep, anyway, for a matter of compatibility with existing projects.

No news for an update path for owners of V-Collection Classics? Just want to get the new interfaces of my plugins.

Not being familiar with Arturia at all (I don't have any of their instruments), is the Synclavier V available as an individual purchase, or will it be? Or is it locked into the Collection V?

/Joachim
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Doesn't work (any longer?)

OK that's annoying, I hope it is more weeks than months. I know the old versions work alongside the new but I really don't like having to switch between them. So are the presets all brand new then? Otherwise how did you get them into the new versions?
We have converted them so we already have the tool.
We just have to polish it to make it available to the public.

Ouch! Does this concern all synthesizers in V5?
Would be interesting to hear why you changes the preset format (if you can talk about it).

/Carl
We changed it because we had previously different formats and it was a nightmare to maintain. So now we have the same format for all the instruments.

Hi Joachim,
You can purchase the Synclavier V separately from the V Collection, here is the link you're looking for : https://www.arturia.com/synclavier-v/overview

HQ gui aside, remember the good ol' days, when software synthesizers use to be under 10megs?
And they were easy on the memory.
Like ArcSyn is currently.

I now have the option to upgrade to the full V5 Collection from Classics in my account. No option to upgrade my Classics plugins only though. :(

This is not possible, sorry (at least at the moment).
That's a pity.
