A.f.a.i.k. the only change is the preset browser and the skin. Having a good GUI to work with is of course important, but the sound is the most important part in the end, and if that engine is bascially the same in V3 as V2, then I pass

I got Analog Lab 2 for free, did you try Arturia Software Center?zakufan wrote:Analog Lab is getting the update too. But no upgrade option for Analog Lab 1 users??

I don't want everything for free. I want to earn my stuff. But this is just 'funny'. Sure, if they would ask €99,- for the complete upgrade, incl. the new instruments, i would buy that without any second thought. But the update to V5 (from V4 btw......what i am using right now) is hollow. "only" a skin and new preset browser is market-wide usually a free upgrade (serum, Spire, presswerk, fl studio, a bit different...). When there is some real new content, it is usually a paid upgrade (Geist2, Oddity2, Phonec2).beely wrote:Everyone wants everything for free, of course, and there is a certain expectation that products you buy once should be supported, and extended with new stuff, forever, at no, or virtually no additional cost to the user.exmatproton wrote:€99,- is a lot indeed. However, the work (and costs) involved in a team of developers designing and developing new, modern cross-platform resolution-independent frameworks and redesigning all the graphics front end to a sizeable collection of reasonably complex instruments is expensive, and companies have to stay in business.
Personally, I think the new interfaces are a big deal and will make a huge difference in usability to these products, but if they aren't important to you, no one is forcing you to upgrade. As always, the creator sets the price, and the user works out whether the utility is worth the cost, and that equation is different for everyone...
Now, since the modular synth was a real pain to work with, i've upgraded that one. Since the potential was there all along (imho). And €10,- is a good deal. But since you can't update per instrument (the collection), this will be the only upgrade i do.

Well, i don't agree at all with this statement. Pay us money, or we won't provide you with a good working interface??? That's just plain stupid. I already paid for the product. It is like DLC.....
+ some of the products already had a good working skin, like Matrix and Oberheim...

Maybe Analog Laboratory (the predecessor of Analog Lab) users do not get the upgrade?jasco wrote:I got Analog Lab 2 for free, did you try Arturia Software Center?zakufan wrote:Analog Lab is getting the update too. But no upgrade option for Analog Lab 1 users??

Yes maybe. I have such a license, but also one from V Collection Classics.zakufan wrote:Maybe Analog Laboratory (the predecessor of Analog Lab) users do not get the upgrade?jasco wrote:I got Analog Lab 2 for free, did you try Arturia Software Center?zakufan wrote:Analog Lab is getting the update too. Analog Laboratory users didn't get a free upgrade to Analog Lab v1, so why should they get free upgrade to Analog Lab v2Maybe Analog Laboratory (the predecessor of Analog Lab) users do not get the upgrade?![]()

Regardless of that, I think we should at least get an upgrade coupon

Also as the Arturia plugns are a kind of "must have" for me since a while i just upgraded to V-Collection 5. Had a small problem with the license delivery but both Kevin and the official support helped me with that quite quickly.
Usually when i had problem with Arturia stuff this was sorted quite quickly after contacing support.
Since i participated at working at the recent NKS updates for Waldorf i am also using the NKS Presets in combination with a dedicated hardware controller and this usually works nicely, inckuding the Arturia plugins. All of their plugins also seem to support 64-bit AAX plugins for Pro Tools 11/12 which is very nice too.
The Synclavier is indeed very cool and could be a quite complex additive synth when using the advanced features including in the normally "hidden" menus/pages.
Of course the additional FM could lead to even more complex and/or different results.
Overall the combination of additive and FM synthesis like implemented in the Synclavier seems to be difficult to replicated with other synths and of course it has it's own basic sound.
so far my only approach to the Synclavier (besides several famous songs that used it including some from Genesis...) was a sample library from Enhus: http://enhus.com/synclavier-fm/
Of course the other new Arturia plugins and the updates of the older plugins are interesting too but first i will spend some more time with Synclavier V.
I also got UVI Falcon (which i really like for it's very vesatile synth engine) and was close to buy the Synclavier based library from them. Anyway i am happy that i waited a bit and now got a dedicated modeled emulation of the synth engine opposing to a sample based library.
I am not sure how proper Synclavier V is as an emulation but like found with many other Arturia plugins it should be a great synth on it's own. Personally while i never use da real Synclavier i more or less see this as a new and modern version of the Synclavier. The preferences also offer some options (e.g. Noise floor and bit-depth) to make the sound more "Lo-fi" or Hi-Fi depending on what you need.
Not really missing the sample playback support in the Synclavier plugin even if that seemed to be an important part of the hardware. For sample based stuff i got a few other options and teh synth based stuff of the Synclavier seems to be more interesting anyway.

I am installing some of the demos at the moment. The path for install are the "blahblah>Steinberg>Vst Plugins" folders, which can't be changed prior to installing. Once the plugins are installed, can I just move them to my actual VST folders or do I have to leave them in the default folders the plugins were installed to? Thanks

Strange. I am able to change the paths for the VST2 plugins in the Installer. Was no need to move the plugins later here. i am using those in Windows 10 64-bit.pheeleep wrote:I am installing some of the demos at the moment. On the other hand oppoing to the VST2 both the VST3 and AAX plugins are always installed to a default folders.

I installed the Mini V demo yesterday, and was able to change the VST path too. Gotta be something weird going on there. As Ingo wrote, the VST3 of course always gets installed into the CommonFiles folder.

That is really weird. I just cancelled the demo installation to start over. There is a note on the first install screen that the plugins will install to the Steinberg folders and I see no way to change the paths (there is a custom option, but that only allows us to pick which plugins to install from the whole collection). I thought it was because it's the demo installer at first, but I think that you also had to install the demo installer and then activated the plugins from the demos, correct? Weird.. BTW I am using the entire collection demo installer. Not sure if you guys used a different installer (maybe for just one plugin vs. the whole collection (?))
