Yea completely disappointed with the huge sale earlier this year only to have their hands out less than 6 months later for upgrades to what I just purchased.

Say what you will about WUP but at least you can buy with confidence that they can't pull a stunt like this.

Hats off to companies like Soundtoys / D16, etc who have fair & transparent promotion & upgrade policies. Support from Arturia actually said "We do offer a grace period, but 6 months is honestly already quite long" when I took them to task via email, which is just laughable.

Arturia had each and every one of those new customers penciled in as a sucker who's going to pony up another $100-200. There was no "LOWEST PRICE EVERRRRR" in the end, you're paying very close to full price if you upgrade. Zero chance I purchase another Arturia product after this.

i didnt get money yet and wanted to get it maybe end of month but with reverse marketing no no for me.

It's really odd. Every knows that software companies tend to have a bit of a sale a while before a newer version is coming out. NI in particular are renown for having a big sale on Komplete a few months before the next version comes out. Yet everyone acts surprised and upset when the new one comes out, as if it's some huge surprise.

I bought V4 when NI had a half price sale on it when it became NKS complaint, and I thought it was pretty good, and got a fair bit of use out of it. So when the new version comes to, why should I be disappointed - I've still got what I paid for ?

And as for the upgrade being expensive, the Synclavier is worth that to me on it's own. I have been playing for couple of hours with the demo and the new features are (to me) worth every penny.

I was lucky enough to get the upgrade for $ 168, which in the UK is not a lot more than two tanks of diesel for my car....

Guys I know things are tight these days, but this ain't expensive for what it is, and If you don't like it, it's not as if there aren't any other software instruments out there....

So i have V-Collection 4 and now i can update my V4 to V4-update? But i won't have V5? Why is the V4-update a paid one at all?? Since it is called an update.....this is really the weirdest scheme i came across in VST-land.

They should've updated V4 and have an UPGRADE-path for V5. That's all....this is just stealing...weird stuff. It really feels like DLC.

Let's see, for $199, forgetting the stuff that I don't care about like the pianos and organs...

I got

A CS 80 that I can actually program
A 2600 that I can actually program
A Moog Modular that I can actually program

A Synclavier that, if released by a company like U-he, would cost at least $199 on its own. Until you've dived into this beast you have no clue what it's capable of doing.

Nobody is putting a gun to your head to buy this. If you think it's too much. If you think you're not getting enough value for your money, the solution is pretty darn simple.

DON'T BUY IT!!!

Man, and people get on my case when I complain that a GUI is hard to read.

Such hypocrisy.

For me it is not about V5's prize at all. I think that is a good offer. It is the V4 to V4-update prize. It is just something i've never seen before. It is a really weird scheme, which i don't like.

You are completely right about the V5 upgrade. But the fact they ask money to update GUI's that were just really bad in the first place, is just plain stupid. I don't like that at all.

Yeah, Arturia are charging that much for the single plugin so getting the whole lot for $30 less just seemed a no brainier to me.

If I upgrade to v5, will older project with the v4 instruments in them use the new synths, or the old? Are the old plugins replaced completely? If they're not replaced, I feel like my plugin list will get pretty messy.

No, they will be new plugins. Alongside the old ones.

Good for you. I'm guessing you've owned the bundle for a while. The update has value for YOU then. Me? I could care less about the new stuff, I care that I have to upgrade something I just purchased barely 6 months ago. As I said to Arturia- saying they didn't have the upgrade forthcoming would be disingenuous. They could have been far more transparent in their approach.

So you don't feel you should be able to program vst's without an update?? That's just weird. Software has to work. We all pay for it. So we may expect stuff that works. And if it isn't working properly for most people (like the crappy UI's in V4 and earlier), they should fix that. And NOT asking more money. They f**ked it up in the first place.

Now, for the €199,- upGRADE to V5, i think this is a really nice price. Considering what new stuff you get. But V4 should be updated for free, since we already paid for the software. Especially considering we don't use 720p or lower screens anymore for years now.

That would have been better. I'm not going to pay just to get my plugins a new GUI.

I'll hold out for a while and see if I get tempted to go for the whole V5, but there really isn't anything in the new instruments that I'm keen for. I'll probably just soldier on with V4 and see if V6 has anything to push me over the edge.

Synclavier is worth the upgrade price alone, one of the best VST's I have used.
Moving up from V2 Matrix is also really nice.

The keyboards and organs are actually very good, when run through the modelled amps and effects (including convo reverbs like shimmer) they sound better/different to a lot of the stuff I already had (NI Komplete, AAS)

All in all given that the instruments look and 'sound' better, have much better pre-set management and include a lot of new stuff including the amazing Synclavier (which should have its own thread) I think its worth the upgrade price....
