I'm encountering some difficulties when recording MIDI:

(1) Some interface components I use (like turning effects suddenly on or off with the little green buttons) don't send MIDI. Do I need to draw a very steep MIDI CC curve to mimic an on/off?

(2) Is there a simple way to record the current values of all instrument and effect settings to "initialize" a song?

(2) I often replay a track and record MIDI automation. But, sometimes moving a single slider produces three or four new MIDI data tracks and I don't understand the results. Should I be using "merge", "punch-in", or something else? I have many parameters assigned and do not know which ones I'm going to adjust when I start recording.

Thank you,

Indeed they're not automatable.

Yes you can bypass a module using the Audio Balanver modules and automate their balance parameter.

No.

A track can only target 1 module so parameter recordings of the same module could co-exist on the same track. The merge option is not a good option for merging parameters of different modules.

Isn't that what happens when you save a project ?
Beauty is only skin deep,
Ugliness, however, goes right the way through

Or save a template if it's a common starting point for many projects.
