I'm going to have to sit this month out I think... I'm actually moving country soon so things are going to get properly chaotic around here. A shame, considering I used to use NoiseMaker a fair bit way back. With the cash prize and TAL product on offer though, I'm sure everyone is going to be bringing their absolute best! It's going to be a month of some amazing songs and programming I'd say! Looking forward to hearing everyone's tracks.

Best of luck to all! I'll be listening! :)

Moving country? ..Yeah, I am sure you will be busy then, which is too bad. I am not sure I have time to finish my track that I started on because I have a busy week ahead and I am travelling to the Philippines soon. But I will try anyway. I leave 15th - June so I don't know if I can see the voting result from Podolski OSC. Life is too busy :dog:

If I'd win I'd probably give the money to some charity or open source developer.

But I can safely say this cause i'll never win.

come to think of it; my wife wouldn't let me donate the money anyway

come to think of it; I would be able to rub it in her nose and say nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah ... told ya ... (she think I spend to much time on the OSC)

come to think of it; I'm not gonna do that and just do what my wife tells me to do. I'm quite lost without her ;-) ... she gave me 3 sons ... I love her very much. She can bake and cook quite well ... She's 30 ... I'm 47 ... I'm not taking chances ..

Btw thanx for all the tips about tom sounds :tu:
I'll try them out!

11x TAL Noisemaker.
FL Studio 12.3 (latest beta), 2x TDR Nova (free edition)
DAW plugins; fruity limiter, maximus, param. eq2
No other FX plugins. (24 bit wav to download. No soundcloud render limiter, so it sounds a bit weary when streaming. Make sure to download the wav)

Not the greatest but I think it's better than first one (;

My entry for OSC 88:

Needles + Sins
  • No EQing (except for some delay effects)
  • TAL NoiseMaker: 11 instances
  • LoudMax: 1 instance
  • Some (non-modulating!) Reaper effects
  • Recorded with Reaper 64
Cheers, Björn

Nice. :) I just wondered how you made that pump effect, but i remembered that Noisemaker was the synth with the built-in pump effect. :D

Post

*Cough, cough* On the pads I used a compressor side-chained by the base drum (is this the correct terminology? :-o)...
But otherwise you're right, this one PUMPS! :tu:

Cheers, Björn

Ah... thought you did it with the syncable envelope in Noisemaker.

If you haven't tried it already, Noisemaker has a really nice and rich sound, I'm looking forward to some of the results
It is awesome. Are you joining in?
Yeah, I will! Spent a session last night trying to get ideas, it's really forcing me out of my comfort zone of samples and just piling effects onto everything... My drums totally suck and I'm in awe of people here. Also, TAL-Sampler is one hell of a prize!

By the way, quick question - is using a delay plugin to create the Haas effect allowed? From what I can tell from the rules, that might fall under the "modulation affecting the sound" ban...

Also Noisemaker is really good for grungy, distorted kind of sounds, but the guy who streamed a session on YouTube made the most beautiful melodic techno track and given that I love Extrawelt, James Holden and Minilogue and the like, so I really want to give that style a shot too. So obviously, I promptly spent an hour making a really fat reese bass instead.

Yes, stereo widening effects have been pretty widely used and accepted, just not chorus, flanger or modulating ones. The important thing (in my opinion) is that you do something you *could* do with the synth itself. You *could* make 2 instances the same, program 2 midi notes milliseconds apart and pan each with the exact same result. You can achieve chorusing by just detuning an instance, too, so I've never really understood the modulation restriction as it pertains to chours/flanger (at least chorus/flanger/phaser/etc.) effect rule, but is how it is. So: delay for stereo is ok, chorus for stereo is not.
