Hi all,

We also have an RC for Presswerk 1.1.1

After a lot of testing and discussions, we have a solution for the cross-platform issue. As we reported in other threads and newsletters, the current official version of Presswerk VST2 for Windows has a false VST ID which prevents cross-platform compatibility in certain hosts. We developed a few workarounds, a project conversion tool and even a special project migration DLL with detailed information. It took us several months to work out, but the fruits of all that labour is now available.

As we wish to go "live" with this very soon, we won't post any more information here - after all, we would like to know whether the information included with the download is sufficient! ;-)

Here we go:

Presswerk 1.1.1 RC Mac
Presswerk 1.1.1 RC Win

Please check these out and let us know about any issues. Like Satin 1.3, these will be the final versions that will run in MacOS X 10.5 and Windows XP.

Thanks,

- Urs

Fixed Bugs (besides cross-platform issue):
  • Touch link: locked states not updating correctly (MS View)
  • Small memory leaks
  • Preset name abbreviated when reopening GUI
  • BYPASS state can be stored in a Preset but not in a Project (AU only)
  • Inaccurate Parameters via GUI (rounding errors): values shown as integers while actually being fractional numbers
  • Reaper: freeze when using ‘Original Plus’ skin
  • DPR clicks
  • ProTools: dynamic latency reporting sometimes ignored by host
  • Data Graph may appear aliased on GUI sizes ≠ 100%
  • LINK button state set to ON after recalling project (Mac only)
  • VU: right needle jumps more than left needle
New features:
  • Scrollbar in the patch browsers description window
  • Improved skin (with display of linked channel). Presswerk now has only one skin—‘Original Plus’ has been removed from Installer (note that it might still be present with updates from existing installations). This helps prevent accidental editing of the linked channel.

VST3 rewrite:
  • completely reworked VST3 layer, including sidechain support
  • no workaround for MIDI learn yet, but MIDI Controllers can be assigned in List-View using VST3-specific techniques
  • a workaround for the MIDI learn screen is in development, and a feature request for proper VST3 MIDI Learn has been sent to Steinberg

I feel a little confused on what the issue was. What does "cross platform compatibility" mean? like if you were using your project across multiple DAW's?

Yes. The fix is to make it compatible, which unfortunately breaks compatibility with existing projects on Windows. Which is why we offer a bunch of alternatives to "just upgrading" :)

Ahhh, I understand ^^. I exclusively use Ableton for all my work, which is why I never noticed anything :hihi:

Hehehe, Ableton Live is actually one of the hosts affected, and one for which our project converter tool works without a hitch.

I can be wrong but I think cross platform here means PC <-> Mac and not DAW <-> DAW since you can't really open a Live project (for example) in another DAW.

Ah, yes, sorry, I misread. It's a fix for Live (PC) <-> Live (Mac) or Cubase (PC) <-> Cubase (Mac).

Urs/u-he/anyone reading,
My existing version of Presswerk works fine, but I downloaded this latest version anyway; though I have yet to activate this new one. Out of the several new files, there is a "Project File Converter.zip": what does that do and why would I need it?

Descriptions are given in the zip file, check the file Presswerk Cross-platform Issue.pdf.

sascha,
Thank you for replying! I'm operating with an iMac. Maybe I won't update yet since mine is working fine anyway.
