Looks like U.S. folks are subsidizing Tone2 in this case...
Traditionally, for most products (and I know this from my marketing days looking at my own sales) most sales come the following countries in this order.

US
UK
Australia
Canada

That's why they charge so much to US citizens because most of their sales come from us.

Robmobius wrote:I don't get the hate either... Sure, they over hype their products, but so does everyone else. Their synth prices are inline with most other stuff (in that bracket). Exchange rate and VAT can't really be helped.

Anytime I've dealt with them they've been more than cool, their support is great (from my experience).

If you don't particularly like their synths, that's fine plenty more to choose form.

But I still think Tone2 and U-he are at the top of the pile.
I don't hate their synths. I love them. Love the way they sound. Own two of them.

What I hate is how you can go to their web site and pay one price, go to some other site and pay another price and on top of that contact them, tell them you own a number of their synths and get yet another price and how Euro people pay LESS for their synths than US citizens pay.

That's what I don't like.
I remember you mentioning that you liked them before. I think they are great synths as well... And I'm really liking Icarus so far. I can't wait for the actual release! :)

TBH, I'd never heard of them ever offering discounts before (even if you owned a number of synths). As I own all of them except for Electra II (which I sold recently). It would have have been nice to know, so I agree with you.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

It says here € 149 EUR including VAT, the amount of VAT is not specified before checkout, as I won't check out I won't receive an invoice, but it would say 19% VAT on the invoice and the sum would be listed separately.

what prices do you see? synth cost + vat amount...
Exactly. But that would be weird for countries which don't have VAT. Can only be an error, and a net amount for non-VAT residents, which simply is quite a bit higher. The question is why it is different for recursive one then. As i wrote, puzzles me. Usually you get a net amount, and VAT is added on checkout, so you see the total amount only on checkout, not before. At least that's how it is in most of the times here.

So the gross price is 149 € - VAT is 23,79 € - price without VAT = 125,21 €

And todays exchange rate makes that $ 140,23 USD without VAT.

OMG...So we're paying about $59 more than everybody else.

I have no words. Simply inexcusable.

Of course VAT rates change per country, my maths refer to 19% VAT in Germany (and that's also where Tone2 are based).

And if you would add the share*it fees for T2 (which are around 8% = $ 11,22, at least when I sell via them) on top of those $ 140,23 + 11,22 = $ 151,45 USD - quite a difference to $ 199.

Yes, we are paying double VAT straight to Tone2... It's Tone2 Tax! heh

Post

Yes the VAT should be managed properly by Shareit, but I don't see anything stopping you paying €149, rather than $199.

Post

Simply put, any buyers outside the EU should be paying €121.14 plus the share it fees in whatever their local currency is. It seems that is not the case as shown by others here. How anyone justifies that figure to escalate to $199 is beyond me. Thank you Simon for helping to clarify this.

thats bullshit. many products we pay in europe are more than USA cause of the 19% tax.

tone2 clearly habdles the prices bad for this. but dont talk more nonsense without knowing... and i also was in the US some time. europe sucks with vat. again this is tone2 failing atm. hope they will fix it.

Anyone already asked this @ tone2 itself? I mean, via their site? Since they aren't active (a.f.a.i.k) on kvr...
