I do agree that the LFO section could be a little more sophisticated. No free-running LFO? The "Mono" mode still resets to zero when you release the keys and press them again. Not the same as a free-running LFO. We need that

Well, I'm just now sitting down with Icarus. I'm actually very happy with it. I'm not a Serum user, so I'm not able to make distinctions between the two, but the factory presets are exceptional, and just the sound of the instrument alone is really impressive.

It's in the MATRIX section at the Setup tab and then in the upper right. You could select "Arp/Lfo Free" there. The default is "Arp/Lfo Softsync" or "Arp/Lfo Hardcsync".kokotte wrote:free running/lfo/arp are in the global option with the tuning, pitch bend range....

Seems very basic. Picks a wavetable at random with LFO modulating the wave. Perhaps T2 are planning to add more intelligence to this. Something to ask them.Caine123 wrote:can anyone who has/will have the full version tell me how the random patch initiator is?

I am not home right now, but I think there is help menu and it might be located there.Novaliz wrote:Is there a manual online? I cant find one.
EDIT: In the synth itself, "Help" is in the upper-left in the browsing section, and the manual is there.

Forgot that you can download the manuals here: https://www.tone2.com/html/download.html As Icarus is still beta, it's not available there yet though.

Yeah, only a global sync/free function. That's a bummer....hmmmIngonator wrote:It's in the MATRIX section at the Setup tab and then in the upper right. You could select "Arp/Lfo Free" there. Thanks! So, all three LFOs are either synced or free running? Is there a way to only have like one LFO synced and the other two free running? I think it's a little strange to only have one or the other for all three LFOs.kokotte wrote:free running/lfo/arp are in the global option with the tuning, pitch bend range....

Nope. It is a global setting. Hence my post:Sound Author wrote:Thanks! So, all three LFOs are either synced or free running? Detailed info from Markus on LFOs...
Icarus can run the lfos in polyphonic (per voice) and monophonic (global for all voices) modes. The mono button defines this. Per default the lfos and the arp run in softsync mode. If you activate mono the lfo will only retrigger when no voices have been playing before. Otherwise it works like a freerunning lfo.
When i did sounddesign i usually used 'softsync with mono' for filtersweeps. It is a hybrid mode which combines the advantages of a retriggered lfo and a freerunning lfo. Here you achive similar results like with a free running lfo, however with the advantage, that you can define with phase where the lfo starts playing when you press the first key on the keyboard.
This way you can also make a voices sync with the wavetable position. I used this kind of setup in many vocoder patches.
---------------
Setting an Lfo for free running:
1) Setup ->Arp/Lfo Free
2) In the Lfo: Mono, no Env, key to 0, fadein to 0
For this purpose there are also 16 additional Lfos in the matrix. They are always free running, no matter what settings you do in setup. Select 'Sine X Hz' as matrix source.
