My personal favorite was G-Roove Primal Hunter but anyway congrats to Jasinski - already made nice presets for Noisemaker but wondering what is the receipt for winning such a competition - want to use it next time

You know, I hadn't actually looked at my scores (I know I finished near the bottom) but on a track where BJ had this to say...
"Well done, higher marks from me. Why? Because this is so original, not as harsh, and even though it's bizarre, it sends you on a psycedelic journey. Wagtunes style lsd"
These were my scores
5s = 0
4s = 1 (that was probably his)
3s = 19
2s = 30
1s = 16
I can understand the 3s. Even the 2s. But 16 1s? A one to me means no effort. Absolutely horrendous.

Congratulations Top 5 - very well deserved, amazing tracks all. I was wondering about that a bit, and I came to the conclusion that people vote in such different ways I don't know how to interpret a score of 1. Some people dish out lots of 1s! Anyway, I was curious so did a little calculation on this month, totalling up all the scores for everyone to see the spread of scores. Here it is - quite interesting ...

In my case, i always vote this way:
1 point for my own track, i never score any other track with just 1 point, only mine, because i think all tracks deserves at least 2 points for the effort, for participating. Even if this wouldn't be in the rules, i still would score myself with just 1 point.
2 points for those tracks that need a bit of improvement in some way, practising will make it, but you came and made your effort.
3 points for those tracks that are interesting, those which are fine, easy to listen, but still lack of something.
4 points for those tracks that are good in many ways, but didn't click on me completely.
5 points for those tracks that come with all the best, in sound design, structure, coolness; but i only choose 3 top tracks with this score, my three champions of the month, these tracks made me feel something inside, those tracks that "clicked" on me.
I like this modern voting system (i already told this a few times by now); old system was worse, because there were many good tracks that never got points, they got zero points in the final results, and i'm empathic for those and felt sorry for them, like "hey, i'm here without points, what the heck, i made my effort", that probably could make anyone to throw the towel in music, i didn't like it.
People need support for what they do, they need to know that they are being listened, that they are there, specially if it's something you are giving away from you to others, you expect a feedback, and little "thanks" at least.
So i like this new system, all tracks get points, nobody stay "out" of the contest.
All tracks and musicians should be loved, respected and one should being proud of them, i feel this way about you all; music nowadays is difficult, many people "noising" loud at same time trying to bright between many others, sometimes you feel you should quit on it.
But first, you have to see the effort, the passion, the practising and the improvement in them.
And always that i can comment (if i have free time, this month was hard for me) or give feedback to someone, i prefer to fuel the positive things they have, the good things they can achieve, instead of "negative" feedback (unless they ask me for it directly) because you can kill the passion of these people who have much to offer about something, and i think most part of musicians are sensitive (i'm at least), they got feelings that you can break in a blink with a few words, or even with a 1 point score.
But no, giving low scores doesn't mean that people hate you, that's for sure. Hating and scoring are two very different things. And i think we all love and respect each other here. So lets continue this way.

If you really liked a song, give it a 5 (It's always in the moment thing too...). If it was good, a 4. A song that you didn't feel particularly anything for, but respected, give it a 3. Something off, something just not right in your ears or head, give it a 2.
1's should be reserved for songs that were clearly not finished (like 30 seconds long), or don't seem serious entries.
It's all in the moment for me, so I could possibly change my vote throughout the week. In this system, genre isn't important. Good mixing can help, but not the primary thing i'm looking for.
It's good to feel out and understand the intention of the song producer too. What were they trying to make? Try hard... if it was all 8 bit and retro... clearly that's not going to compete (in terms of raw production value) with a heavy hitting modern dubstep track. But maybe the 8 bit song really made you feel... and also put interesting pictures in your mind (video game scenes, etc).
I used to be more heavily biased toward production, but now i'm going less about production value, more about my feeling, and how I like the song, or how the synth was used.
