IrionDaRonin wrote:In my case, i always vote this way:

1 point for my own track, i never score any other track with just 1 point, only mine, because i think all tracks deserves at least 2 points for the effort, for participating. Even if this wouldn't be in the rules, i still would score myself with just 1 point.
2 points for those tracks that need a bit of improvement in some way, practising will make it, but you came and made your effort.
3 points for those tracks that are interesting, those which are fine, easy to listen, but still lack of something.
4 points for those tracks that are good in many ways, but didn't click on me completely.
5 points for those tracks that come with all the best, in sound design, structure, coolness; but i only choose 3 top tracks with this score, my three champions of the month, these tracks made me feel something inside, those tracks that "clicked" on me.
Seems to mean that the other 5s of yours (not your three champions) go with 4 points then?
I prefer to let the whole of voters choose the winners, so I simply rate all tracks from 1 to 5,
but tricky thing is that obviously some tracks are good at first listening where others are better after
two or three listenings. And some tracks that are good at first get less interesting after more listenings.
So there's a lot of chance by how many times the voters have the patience or time to listen more than once,
especially with so many submissions like this OSC 87 month - just some thoughs,<wink>

1 point for the voter track seems to be default, as the website says.
[good wise words here]
But no, giving low scores doesn't mean that people hate you, that's for sure. Hating and scoring are two very different things. And i think we all love and respect each other here. So lets continue this way. :)
Yes we vote the tracks not for the people.

Well you got robbed. If you read my comments, yours was one of my favorites.

Next month will really prove my point. Spent over 80 hours on my track. I'll still get 16 1s and be near the bottom.

Very very cool to listen to the variety of music from all of you.
Thank you for getting so much good stuff out of our Podolski, and we hope you had a good time with it!
(Despite its lack of a noise generator)

All the best from us here at u-he headquarters,
Viktor
Many thanks for making good synths like this available for free. :tu: :hyper:
Lots to like about this one! I especially like the unusual extra envelope stage 'rise/fall'

Wag, you can spend 500 hours on a track, but if you produce a track with a niche sound, you likely won't get the votes. That's the truth of it. The wierder, more outside, more experimental, the likely worse you'll do. I'm not telling you go to pick a cookie cutter genre... but there's a range of sounds that people resonate with. Theodore Adorno wrote a lot about this idea (especially concerning the pop music industrial complex). Jasinski has mastered something special. His tracks have swaths of creativity, but wrapped into a familiar, easy to digest package. It's like a Bob Ross painting. You've seen nature paintings before, but damn, Bob Ross made some creative scenes. Your painting has wild colors, and unfamiliar shapes. I really enjoyed your last "painting" but others may not have.

Just to clarify, that wasn't a call for conformity. Really great tracks are weird... actually the best ones probably are. But most people are already familiarized with a certain sound, thus making it hard to appreciate or even start to understand it. Like Liqih said, you might need to listen to a track many times.

So creating a good track in the OSC has a psychological aspect. What are people thinking? This applies to other areas too probably (like video game soundtracks, or movies. What is the audience, and does this fit in with the film?).

I guess in a statistical sense, maybe this works too. If you take all the OSC voters, and map out their interests in music, you'll find a sweet spot... a spot where most people overlap. Jasinski hits that spot with laser beam precision.

You're not telling me to pick a cookie cutter genre but at the same time, you're telling me that if I don't, the results I'm getting are the results I'm going to get. LMAO.

This so reminds me of when I got out of college long before most of these guys were even born. They kept telling me that they were looking for someone with 2 years of experience.

How the hell can I have 2 years of experience when I just freaking got out of college (you moron) which is what I wanted to say to the jackass after he read me the stock response.

Yeah, I get it. We live in a cookie cutter world. It's been that way since after Mozart died. Even going back to the 50s, listen to the "typical" 50s rock song. C-AM-F-G.

Oh wait, nothing's changed. LMAO.

Prog rock was my only hope for a dying musical world but the genre just didn't last. I think by the early 80s it was pretty much dead and buried.

Whatever. I just need to vent or I'll start throwing computer equipment out windows.

Oh, and I'm sorry, but the best tracks did NOT win this month.

Post

That's not at all what I said.

You chose a sound that few people are familiar with. Case closed.

Every person has had a different sound journey. You don't have to choose DJ Tiesto trance to win. You have to pick and choose things that would be more familiar to people, yet are creative in their own right.

I'm warming up to Wag's style.

BTW, Wag did you ever get the screen capture stuff working?

That and video as well. Thanks for the help there.

Sorry for being so crabby. This whole thing is frustrating. I should have been born in the 90s instead of the 50s. I feel like my grandparents probably felt when I put on my Led Zep records.

Yes, I have become my grandparents.

Actually, I've been spending a good part of my time since taking a break from the OSC to work on my Vocaloid stuff.

I have a whole channel but this is just one sample.

This is probably one people here can relate to a little better. Has kind of a Blondie vibe to it.

I think you just have to keep doing it. I have done OSC twice, i'm doing my style but my style can be many different genres.
