Can I just ask, why are you so hot for Cool Edit?

It's like almost 15 years ago it was discontinued in favour of Adobe Audition.

Does Cool Edit even run on newer OS's like Vista or Win 7 ?

I'd a copy of CE a decade ago. It was very pleasant to work with. and good enough for my limited needs. I also liked that one could cusotmize the colors.

As for adobe - I don't like Adobe. They are evil people who invented PDF and should therefor go to bed early.

You are right. CE might not work for Vista 7,8 and 10. But that remains to be seen.

Sites nice in general, scan with your favorite antivirus though.

Yeah, im not affiliated with them at all, thats why i recommended a scan. Ive gotten stuff from there before thats why its on my fav's list, i think since they launched in 2001.

Obviously i havent downloaded all of the software, but as i said, the stuff i have, i have never encountered anything bad, you also have to be cautious of software packed with its own 'toolbars' and 'adware'. (depending on what you get, i wouldnt be surprised if something contains an AOL or Prodigy offer :O haha)

Adobe purchased Cool Edit Pro from Syntrillium Software in May 2003 for $16.5 million[3] as well as a large loop library called "Loopology". Adobe then changed the name of Cool Edit Pro to "Adobe Audition".

Adobe Audition v1 was released on 18 August 2003. It had bug fixes but no new features, and was essentially a more polished Cool Edit Pro 2.1 under a different name. Adobe then released Audition v1.5 in May 2004; major improvements over v1 included pitch correction, frequency space editing, a CD project view, basic video editing and integration with Adobe Premiere, as well as several other enhancements.

I dont know. For some reason i remember having conversations with a few people about the size difference between CE 2.1 and AA v1. I dont think it was a simple rebranding, or bug fixes. I also think they removed the eastereggs.

I used to use it too but forgot what it looked like. It looked and functioned a lot like Audacity does today. I'd highly recommend that long before some shady barely functional shareware crack of CoolEdit.

Audacity isn't sexy, but I have a tough time believing that "cool edit pro" in some crack/hack is that much better.

Did anyone say it yet? Have they DARED mention it? (we know what I'm talking about

) You can trial it forever if you are a cheap bastard.

Yep, legally you can only download demo versions of Cool Edit Pro so Audacity or Wavosaur would be my 1st choice (or if i'm really after Cool Edit Pro i would buy it 2nd hand only original boxed).

Honestly, even if you got hold of one, are you sure that a software which has been discontinued in 2003 works on nowadays Windows OS's? Or even supports nowadays file formats and codecs? Seems kind of pointless to work with something that old nowadays. Of course, each to his like, but...

this has to be a joke. syntrillium where bought out by adobe a long time ago, over a decade. i used to use it in tandem with Acid Pro. until it became audition and i could care less about that. there is a deluge of similar editors today, wavosaur is brilliant for a freebie... i think this must be a piss take of some kind : )
if it was for the version that had a multi track window then i think that was CoolEdit PRO..
oh and one reason not to bother, all the wav editing was destructive..

@inkwarp: Thanks for sharing your opinion. Indeed, one can discuss good and bad sides with varous audio editors. But I belive this is not what this thread is about.

Even destructive editing in Cool Edit Pro wasn't directly applied to the wav, you had to save it. Since 2.0 it support real-time non-destructive processing.
