If your looking for warmth, then PSP is the way to go.

Try the Vintage Warmer demo.

I like Voxengo, but it is pretty transparent, which is great for a lot of things, but for color I dig PSP.

yeah, I only mentioned the EQ because you wrote that when you reduced the sample rate, you felt that you were closer to your goal sound wise, and when you reduce the sample rate you're basically applying a low-pass filter with the cut-off around 11khz.
I certainly don't mean to imply that I'm able to always get the sound that I'd like from Cubase SX, but I am comfortable with its sound as compared to Orion, and when I record with WaveLab 4.0 or Cubase SX the recorded sound is very similar and quite good to my ears, though I haven't done a phase reversal test to see if all of the programs have the same frequency response.[/i]
Antec P-case, Asus motherboard, AMD Phenom, 16gbRAM, 4 Hard drives, Windows 7 Ultimate, MOTU 828mkIII, Komplete 8, Maschine, Reason 6, Cubase 6, Blue Sky monitors(and a powerbook).

Putting the sound of the monitors through the microphone and in to monitors again, would that not blow up monitors, soundcard, etc with a nice blast of resonance.

Or is it enough to mute the track to record on ? To say the truth my microphones probably are not good enough to get good enough sound, and i am sure many things would have to be considered, to get a good result at all, well and the benefits of native processing, is somehow let down by this isn`t it. Though it is maybe worth a try.

Samplitude is a very good idea considering it is made by Magix, but i don`t have that much money burning in my Pocket, i have considered the new version of MagixMusicStudio but that could be a bit limiting in the vst track count numbers, but i guess you can`t get everything, if someone have it, i would very much like to hear what they think of it.

Actually There are some odd things about Cubase SX, sometimes it can sound quite different, with the same plugins, i am aware that something of it, Might be an Ear/Mood question/situation, something have to do with updates and so, i remember using the inbuilt true tape, in earlyer versions, maybe i should try dig that up again, i think i have seen it in my plugin folders somewhere. Thanks for your time everybody
:) Let us explore these questions further, more goodies might turn up. :!: :!:

Not as long as you don't monitor the track you are recording to.

Samplitude
crossgrade.

i used to have the same problem wiht cubase.. my sounds were 'dead'..

so i would do all the tricks.. mic my monitors, bounce down to cassette tape/vhs tape, then reimport, even making dubplates and re-sampling.

i do very little of this anymore as i have learned to mix better on my system.

my uad-1 card helps alot too :D

Man, I've never heard such a bunch of half-baked math and science in my life.

Don't get me wrong, some of the suggestions (the plugins and the bounce to tape, along with the importance of a soundcard for the PLAYBACK sound) were right on the money....

I wonder if a simple bounce to-and-from VHS would help, if you don't have access to another form of tape. Just a thought; I've never tried it. I actually used to use VHS along with a Portastudio to PRESERVE quality of bounces. <chuckle>

Please don`t get me wrong, i do not consider SX to be a bad program, maybe i am having to big expectations, i do not consider the sound i am getting any worse than Very Good Indeed, the feeling of the sound i seak, sertainly isn`t in most recordings theese days, but the style of music i am making, has a lot to do with the way the overall sound is, or that is what I want it to be anyway. I want it to be a very pleasing experience.
I know nothing can ever be compleetely perfect, but a great deal of quality comes from stretching for the impossible

If that crossgrade offer for samplitude means you have to dump Cubase, then i would newer consider it, it should not be a very effective program midi wise i have heard.

Can you please give us (atleast me) a sample of the type of music you do, and how you want it to sound? Take any artist and post a 30sec clip from a track that has the sound that you want. This would actually be making us able to help you ;)

I better not, that would be breaking the law, would it not. How about this, i mention some tracks on sertain cds and if you have one of the same in your collection, we would have a reference. I will just look for some cds just a moment, ......it could turn out to be a problem, where i heard this special sound was in program in the first place. ill bee back

Some of the Vangelis albums maybe, Voices - ask the mountains, is well about 80 percent right,

Post

And Jean Michel Jarre - Zoolook - Ethnicolor II, 80 %
What would be illegal would be me sending 30 sec of some commerciel cd, not my own music. Give me some time and i will send you a sample, though not the whole number, eh would it do with mp3, it is just a bit of a problem, sending wave.

im not the legal expert here .. but a short clip .. is that illegal? maybe it is .. so you better not
:) .. what do i know? :D
however, i cant see how an artist would dislike someone posting a short clip saying that the sound is what he wants .. its some kind of promotion, isnt?

anyways .. ill check the tracks out next time im on dc++ ;)

by the way, are you using monitors?
