I agree with that only somewhat...

Just in one Osc, there are 3 tabs (Osc FX, Phase/Sync and Mixer). I'm often switching back and forth between those. Then there are parameters like Osc presets and editing waveforms that are on a tab in the bottom pane.
That is a good point. The intra-module tabbing (for lack of a better term) bothers me more than the tabbing in the bottom section. The OSC, the comb filter and the envelope and LFO tabbing bothers me the most. If there is just one thing I could change, then it would be the tabbing for the OSC. The tabbing on the Comb module comes close second.

Dear Mr. Urs,

exists there any date-plan for a public alpha or beta of Zebra 3.
Or have we still wait for years or foreever ?

Post

There's no fixed date for Z3. RePro-1 takes priority for the time being. Be patient and keep on using Z2. :)

That's understandable but still sad - keeps happening again and again during last few years, especially because Zebra (and people who bought it) made U-He what it is today.
Like a hard-working son who gets neglected because he's not that pretty and not chasing cool girls from rich families :)
Anyways, I know what I'm going to ask Santa this Christmas...right?

They do seem to keep getting distracted. Lol.

Post

I don't think they get distracted - all these smaller/other plug-ins are in some way R&D for Zebra and Berlin Modular (or what is it called now :)).

whats the point of berlin modular even anymore. theres blocks, softube's and revival of actual analog modular synths since the first talks about berlin modular. for zebra i can wait, but if zebra3 is bits of algorhitms and ideas and theres development of stuff like repro and the drum modelling synth, then we should accept the fact that zebra3 is a number of lines of code and there is still no unified product or design yet so it's prob more than 2 years away (or it has been more than that but deemed by the team that it needs more and better etc, so it has been restarted many times like the new zebra2 skin or whatever) ps. u-he, just release the new skin for zebra2 already. yes, it will make zebra2 sound better and ppl will buy it more - we are that stupid.

How many fixed subtractive softsynths are there?? ... Blocks is monophonic and is stuck inside the reaktor shell which is not so fun. Softube is also monophonic.

Personally, I much prefer ACE and Bazille for their ease of use, polyphonic capability and multi-core capability. Lots of room there for further development.

Actually, that sounds like a nice combo. I have been trying to decide on which single u-he to get, and maybe this is the answer :)

You mean like presswerk, satin, and the drummer vst that they're in the theoretical designing stage with? I'm all for new stuff but I think a lot of people are wanting to see what zebra 3 brings. Besides, it's not like they can't gradually add the new r&d stuff to z3 after it's been released. U-he is kind of known for adding quite a bit after the fact, too.

In Softube, take an oscillator. Patch Pulse output to Signal Tool. Patch Signal Tool inverting output to oscillator PWM input. Ouch. Try the same in ACE or Reaktor, or any modular softsynth. Grmmmph. Try the same in an analogue setup - OMG!

Thing is, digital emulations are not yet capable of properly doing the one thing that makes modular synthesis outstanding: Feedback modulation. We have just figured out how to do it in Repro-1 - in a non-modular environment, which took 4+ months of research. Once we can do it in a modular environment, we'll release a modular that'll do the trick! (But it might require a whole different generation of CPUs)

Post

I look forward to the Modular.
What's the chances of modules accepting audio as a Modulation source..?

Thx

Miles away from Bazille.

You got me here - not "all". I don't think presswerk or satin are a part of a Zebra 3 developement.
