Would be great if there was a way (or if it can be explained how if I'm missing it) of having the "record" for a track be singular. For example, you have 5 audio tracks, and 8 midi tracks. As far as I can tell, you have to stumble through them the figure out which is in record and activate/deactivate per. Amiright? Having it to where the monitoring/record is ONLY on the track you are currently using would be handy. You could have the option so that it doesn't bother people who are used to not working this way

I believe what you're after is seeing whether the track input is "armed" or not. If the track has an input assigned to it, on the left, under its name, the input icon is initially just black with a red R on it and a meter monitoring input. This is the unarmed state, and if you start recording, the track will not be affected. In order to arm the track, click on the red R and the pointy end turns red with a white R. Then, when you hit record, that track will record the input. You can always remove inputs from a track.
Let me know if I've missed the point.

[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

If you have 10 tracks (regardless of midi or audio) many hosts have the ability to select ONE track and have that track record enabled (and monitoring on).
This way, for a single person working on their project the only track that is record enabled is the one working on.
Studio one is a decent example of this.

do you have the trackheader visible?
for me it is exactly like you want it in tracktion (if i understand you correctly).
i can choose just one track and set it to record (and monitor if i want that).
can you give us a screenshot or more detailed description?
